Bottle pours a darkened straw yellow with a big, inviting, gueuze-like white head. The smell is tart lemon and big funk. This smells like a very holy marriage between Beatification and 3F Oude Gueuze. The flavor is fantastic in this beer (a melding of European and American sourish beers) - big 3F earthy, gueuzey funk with a tart lemon zing. The wood comes through as well. Not a sour or acetic as one might expect. Just fantastic. Good carbonation and a nice, light-moderate body send this down nicely. I have had a large number of Jackie O's beers and Brad, this is my favorite one. This is also one of my very favorite domestic sours and one of the funkiest I've ever had. This beer is a must try and a really awesome step for domestic sour brewing.

Poured into my Jackie O's modified tulip.

A: A cloudy copper beer with fizzy white bubbles that fade into nothing at all pretty rapidly. Average looking sour beer. Appearance is never a strength of these beers since the acidity instantly kills the head. Looks flat, even though I know it's not based on the gushing at the onset.

S: Grapes, vinegar, lactic acid...oranges/lemons, some funk in there as well...

T/M: Pretty puckering. This is tremendous. Medium bodied...obviously solidly carbed. A really nice sweetness. Oak tannins, vineous grape notes throughout. Very complex sour beer...loving every sip.

O: Tremendous. The gushing carbonation makes this beer for me...pushes the acidity all over my palate and makes every taste pop. Might be the best Jackie O's sour I've had...haven't had a ton, but enough to call this my favorite.

Received in a trade with miketd and shared with JLindros. Batch #1, bottle 238/244.

A - This was a slow gusher but I knew that was coming....captured into a tulip a hazy murky greyish citrus juice with a two finger head that faded quickly to leave thin cloud and a nice halo. Chunky pulp like floaties suspended in the beer...minus that this resembles the appearance of Filmishmish.

S - Aromas of that base blonde and yeast with an explosion of sour almost lemon pucker and a medium earthy wine almost like a Cabernet. That light dusty basement aroma makes an appearance as well. Soon as I popped the cap I knew I was going to like the nose as that aroma poured forth into the air.

T - Taste is just as complex and happy happy as the nose. Initial sour lemon pops and coats the pallet which fades to a slight yeasty blonde flavour. Vinuos wine notes pop out of this as well with more of the pleasantly earthy notes and faint barrel. Very nicenice dusty basement qualities like one expects from a good Belgian lambic. What really separates it for me from that last statement is what has to be lactobacillus on the finish resulting in a very creamy (as in the dairy product cream) lingering note. Delicious.

M - Mouthfeel is very nice with tons of bright carbonation high on the tongue. Again, like a nice lambic.

O - Overall I really enjoyed this ugly duckling of a beer. As sour as it is that lacto on the end really sets it over the top for me. Glad I got to try this and share it. Delicious brew!

Bottle 50/244. Poured into a goblet.

Pours a cloudy amber color with a golden hue. There is a ton of white head, the beer tried to jump out of the bottle a bit when I first opened it. The head fades eventually and leaves a ring around the pour. The smell is very light and full of funk and lemon juice like tartness. I'm also getting a mild white vinegar component. This one smells like a lambic. The taste Is sour, but not as biting as I expected from the smell. Funk and lemon juice show up here as well. There is also a fruity pineapple hint that I'm really digging. Tons of oak and the flavor gets more tart towards the finish. The mouthfeel is thicker than I expected with lots of tingly carbonation and an uber dry finish. I really loved the fruity notes along with the tartness. This was really good!

Erupts, but not too much, a big fizzy head fades almost instantly like it didn't actually exist, super hazy murky sediment laden like pulp just suspended in there, crazy, it has greyish pink grapefruit colored beer with actual pulp. It's so weird looking, i can't describe, if I didn't know what was underneath this pulp filled slightly coagulated pink grapefruit juice, I would probably shy from drinking it.

NOse is huge and super sour, tons of tart lambic like aromas, light berry like fruit but no real fruit, almost sour lemonade like, funk too, not a lot of funk but light lactobacillus or brett lambicus like, little yeasty too, with some light dusty cellar aroma. Then some wine, a med earthy red wine like shiraz or zinfindel like, with light barrel, and just a bit of a blond malt.

Taste super sour, gland explosion, like sucking on a lemon sour, then tart fruit, little berry like but no real fruit to finger, like a lambic mostly. Then funk, not a lot but some, little lambicus like and almost def lactobacillus with bit of creaminess and the big sour flavor. Light wine barrel, again the med red wine that starts light and eventually really comes through. The barrel really comes out as it warms and swirls around my mouth with toasty oak and lots of vanilla. Finish brings tons of dry bready dusty basement kinda finish, typical for a great lambic, with little flemmy, long sour flavor and little tart fruit, light vinous earthy wine and more barrel lingering.

Mouth is lighter bodied but normal for a wild, lots of carb, mouth puckering sour, little flemmy.

Overall very nice, almost on par with nice Belgian lambics. Very sour, great lambic sour qualities, nice dry bready dusty finish, earthy, funky, and even incorporates great wine and barrel flavors. This is the epitome of ugly ducking beer that look horrendous and turns into an amazingly awesome beer. The other one that comes to mind, that rudzud loves to reminisce about, is Filmishmish.
