Bottle shared at GRG1313’s tasting.

2013 vintage. Bottle # 30/360.

Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is sour and tart with dark fruit, wood, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with fruit and acidic flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottle #4 of 360, 2013.

Appearance - Pours with almost no head, no carbonation. Deep reddish brown.

Smell - Cherries, tons of red wine. Acetic acid, but never unpleasant quantities. Vanilla and oak from the bourbon, I guess.

Taste - Even more wine barrel. More bourbon flavor is distinguishable as well. Nice cherry sourness. Tannins and astringency in thr finish.

Mouthfeel - Very tart. Lowish carbonation. The bourbon barrel cuts some of the astringency, but not quite enough.

Overall - Admittedly a very nice sour from Jackie O's, a brewery I am always skeptical about.

On tap at 3/2/2013 release, notes taken when drinking beer. Yes it made me feel like one of those nerdy ratebeer types but whatever.

Appearance is a plain murky dark brown, no head, not great to look at but not surprising from a dark sour. 2.75

Smell is very acidic, very tart dark fruit, raisins, vinegar, something syrupy sweet but it's a little buried beneath all the sour character. 3.75

Taste is also very sour, starts with sweet maple which is then swept away by vinegar and very tart raisins and other dark fruit (blackberry, cherry). Barrel flavors are there if you look for them but not overpowering. Very tasty. 4.25

Not super well carbonated but that's not a huge problem for the style, thick syrupy body. 3.25

Had this on draft at Jackie O's during their bottle release party on 3/2/2013. This was my first sour beer on the suggestion of one of the bartenders

A: Pour was a medium brown with no lacing to speak of or much carbonation\

S: In the nose I had cherries, some peach, and some brandy. Also got some lactose coming through as well. Very inviting beer

T: Wow. For my first sour, I believe I made a great selection. Tart up front, with some nice peach and cherry flavor coming through. Could taste the lactose in the beer and also detected the vanilla through the bourbon. ]

M: Easy to drink - almost too easy - glad that I had a small glass of this stuff. You could taste the power of this beer

O: Overall, this was a fabulous beer offered by Jackie O's. I picked up two bottles of it and look forward to reviewing them on a future special occasion.
