My first trip to Jackie O's was for the 4th Anniversary Party. I think it was during the OU winter break as well. Some off street parking is available on both sides of the street. There might be a 2 hour limit on those spots though. When you walk up to the establishment, there appears to be 2 doors. One is actually for the Brewery and one is for the Public House. I started my journey in the brewery. When you walk in there is a small elevated area on the left that looks as though it could serve as a stage of some kind. Just past that is the bar with about 18 taps. All 18 were filled with Jackie O's brews on my visit. There were a few barrel aged brews along with a couple sour selections. The beers (along with descriptions) were all listed on a board on the wall. Service was pretty good. I really didn't have any questions for the bartenders so they met my expectations I suppose. There is a back door that leads up some steps and onto a patio with several booths. I can see the patio being a blast in warmer weather. On the other end of the patio are steps that descend to the back door of the Public House. It is a pretty good sized place. After walking by the pool table the bar is on the left with several tables arranged on the right. The bar has about 20 additional taps (all filled with Jackie O's brews on my visit). There were sours, barrel aged brews, and some of the regular line-up beers as well. My party had the pizza which was good. Other food that I saw passed around looked tasty too. This included burgers and assorted sandwiches.

At first glance the quality of the Jackie O's establishments can raise an eyebrow (no TV in the Public House, kitchen in an odd place in the brewery, etc...) but there is a light at the end of that tunnel. Conversations with some employees revealed that some construction is getting underway very soon to move the kitchen and address other issues as well. Kudos to the owners for what is in the works for this place. Granted, my visit was during a special event but this place really has quite a few things going in it's favor. Great atmosphere, great beer, good food, and the list keeps going. Yeah, I'll be going back. There is no doubt about that.

Jackie O's is one of my personal favorite breweries. The brewpub is located on Union Street, which is about a half a block off Athens' main street, Court Street in its quaint downtown area. Athens has a very cool vibe and Jackie O's is its craft beer mecca. The brewpub and a larger bar area called the public house are connected by an outdoor courtyard area. They both offer a large variety of in-house brews as well as some guest beers usually with a few featured guest breweries- often also local. And yes you can take your drinks out into the courtyard- there are tables to sit. The 12 taps listed on this page isn't accurate. I would guess that there are more than twelve in the brewpub alone. They sell growlers and bottles/cans of their stuff when available. Now there is a tasting room at the actual brewery which is about 2 or 3 miles away near the football stadium as well. There you can also get growlers with a limited selection, but they have barrel-aged bottles and limited release bottles you can't find anywhere else. The food is good but the beer is amazing. Huge variety of styles from a milk stout aged in sour barrels to a imperial paw paw wheat, you can find anything and the seasonal options do not disappoint. I've been to a majority of the better craft beer places in the Ohio, Penn, WV, KY area and this place is still my favorite.

The brewmaster really knows the art of barrel aging. Everyone is fantastic. The staff is also very friendly.
