Jackie O's is a gem. It is a mix of entrepreneurial spirit and backwoods, bluegrass charm. Everything inside appears to be wood except for the fermentation tanks and Appalachian locals. If you weren't in Athens, Ohio, you would think that you had stumbled into some sort of hip ski lodge.

The beer selection isn't big, but precise. There isn't a throwaway beer on tap. Their own beers are good, not gimmicky. They try to really execute a style. And their guest beers are really fine choices. They are typically from Michigan: Founders, Bells, etc., which helps the whole experience feel local, which it is.

There isn't a cooler place to go to in Athens, except for maybe the converted 18th Century insane asylum up on the hill. But they don't serve beer, and it's not that far of a walk anyway.

A most excellent visit that I have long awaited for. We were evidently in the "public house"
which is attached to Jackie O' which is somewhat small and cluttered and rather----open...
open---like all the doors open. Service was decent enough with knowledgeable staff about
the offerings. Atmosphere was pretty much in the "dive" category. Management could use
some tips on cleaning and give some of those gals and guys behind the bar a hand when they
are slammed. That said, the food was excellent and cooked to order. They are conscientious
about the brewing process and give the spent grains to the farmers who supply them with top
notch beef (some of the best I have ever had) and even make a spent grain pizza which many
there were getting.

The beer, which is why me and the little lady came in the first place, is MOST EXCELLENT. All
were solid with collaborations and some limited cask and nitro offerings as well. Will we make
the journey again, YOU BET. Could they use some work in all around cleanliness like the
bathroom or general maintaining that everything isn't cluttered and out of sorts. You bet.
It is a world class brewery and eatery and bakery that needs some better practices, then
again, like I said, the beer was some of the best I have ever had.

Made it down to the taproom for the first time today, which is very easy to find off 33. The red barn is located just off the main road - it definitely stands out among the other stores in the area.

It was cool to see the barrel room from the parking lot. People were definitely brewing today. Once inside the barn, there is limited seating with a small tap list. The reason I went down was to snag some limited bottles (BB Black Maple, Oil of Aphrodite & Rum Oil). Employees were extremely nice and helped carry the beer out to my car.

Awesome place to visit when traveling through Athens. Too bad 95% of the people who live there don't appreciate its full worth.

I visited this brewpub on Saturday July 12, 2014, the second day of Ohio Brew Week.

The atmosphere of this pub was incredible. The layout and location of the pub was great, very welcoming and the people only made it better. Beautiful and friendly bartenders and inhabitants are always perfect complements to a few good beers. The service was awesome, they were swamped with customers, but my bartender was able to answer my questions about the pub and the town (being a tourist to the place) and even inquire about which of the brews I enjoyed the most.

The quality was tough to beat. They had an incredible selection (I believe ~10 of their own in-house brews on tap, plus maybe ~5-7 other local brews that they were hosting). The selection included a wide range of tastes; seemed like there was something for everyone. Of the wide variety available, I had a sampler of 8. My sampler included six of their in-house brews; the Mandala Galaxy (Imp. IPA), Baltic Merman (Porter), Secret Hoperation (Imp. IPA), Providence (Farmhouse Saison), Sun Village (IPA), and the Bourban Barrel-aged Skipping Stone (Imp. Stout). These six were accompanied by Fathead's Head Hunter (IPA), and Actual Brewing's Fat Julian - Nitro (Imp. Stout), both of which they were hosting. In my opinion, the majority of these were top-tier beers, and if not, damn close to it. My favorite of which was the Sun Village IPA, which I later grabbed a pint of.

Overall, it was a memorable brewpub and I left without any complaints. The only thing close to a complaint would have been the price of the samplers (which was well understood being that it was Brew Week and that Athens were the hosts). If you're in the area, don't miss it. I certainly hope to be back sometime.
