Bottle:

Having tasted Whistler glacier water right at the source and having sampled the original black tusk brews made with it, I have to say this carries on in that tradition of brewing with super soft water.. The water gives a unique softness to the overall palate and mouth feel. It also accents the hops and gives the malts their clean breadyness.

Tasty, soft on the tongue decently hopped, unique and definately 'premium". An unexpected surprise seeing how the beer has been panned by the hop free-baser cult.

A very plain beer. Pours a clear golden colour with a decent looking head that settles to a ring. A bit of lace.

Pretty much undistinguished in any other way. Lightweight malt aroma and a somewhat malty taste. Slightly spritzy with a bit of a bite to finish.

Nothing ugly, but nothing to get excited about either.

Whistler Export Lager pours a clear light gold with a beautiful fluffy head that lingers into a nice lacing. Sulfur is the first thing that I smell, followed by crisp caramel sweetness. The skunky characters hits upfront in the flavor followed by the light crystal malt sweetness. Some buttery diacetyl comes across in the finish, with a light hop bite. Unfortunately, what could be a smooth, easy drinking yet flavorful lager is really ruined by the skunky flavors. The clear glass bottle hurts what could otherwise be a pretty decent beer.

Poured a 330-ml bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance - good straw-coloured beer with a 1/4-inch white head. Decent lacing as the glass was drained.

Smell - some sour malt notes for sure, not promising. Reminds me of some cheap buck-a-beer offerings from the late-90s.

Taste - round malt flavour but too heavy on the veggie flavour and tinny-sour aftertaste. Just not on the mark.

Mouthfeel - fairly active up front but then dies to a creamy sensation. Unexpected and has a mediocre effect.

Drinkability - not what I hoped for or expected. Certainly looked sharp before I opened the bottle.

The clear bottle has me concerned, but let's check this bad boy out anyway since my son lugged back the sample pack from Seattle.

Pours a clean and filtered golden yellow into the Bitburger pilsner glass, well carbonated white head springs to life and hangs around for a bit. Bits of sticky lace on the way down.

Nice malty aroma, but the quaff is a letdown as only a hint of malt is present, and some cabbage notes really pull it down another step or two. Not something I would normally drink, even as a lawnmower brew. Better drink it cold.

330ml poured into pint glass jan4 2009

A clear light gold with with a two finger head after an angry pour, two finger head quickly falls to a 1/4 inch film leaving a fair bit of lace

S quite sweet with some mild hops and and a little grass

T has that cooked veggies taste that hurts its cause and has a bad aftertaste that's a little sour

M thin but enough carbonation to keep it average

D bad taste is never a good thing, I will avoid this one in the future

hey at least it wasn't skunked with the clear bottle. not worth trying much worse then it looked

Golden with a good sized dirty white head. OK macro lager aromas, cardboard and sourdough..no its not that bad! Taste seems to have a little more going on, there seems to be a nice biscuity maltiness, and a tangible bitterness..I take that is from the hops? Not bad on the palate, just above average for style. Overall not a bad little lager.

pours a pale yellow with a small white head, and a little lacing.

smell is faint, grain, and some corn.

taste is watery, metallic, grain, and malt.

overall a very bland brew, not that great of a pale lager, actually very typical of pale lagers.

missing on all cylinders.

I bought a mixed-six of Whistler brews at a grocery store. I think it was about $6. Cool looking old school bottle, made of clear glass. Poured into a pilsner glass.

Pours a pale color and is clear. Fizzy, slightly creamy, white head dissipates quickly, but still leaves a little lace behind. It looks mildly carbonated, with a few streams of bubbles rising in the glass.

Smell is faint, but a sharp dairy aroma, like sour milk, maybe with some herbal notes.

The taste is of grains, rice and wheat maybe, with a pine bitterness along side. There is a lingering bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is light, thin of body and dry.

A drinkable brew, it is neither good or bad in any respect. The bottle may be the best part of this one. I can;t see myself having it again.

LCBO. Not bad for this normally mediocre beer style. Wafted cheese smell on the pour. Very yellow body with some lace. Bit thin mouthfeel. The yeast brings out a maltiness on the sugar side, with a tad of a Saaz-like salty hop. The glacier water is suited to it, so that it is in fact Pilsner-like. Drying finish.

Clear straw with an inch or so of white foam. Not too brittle and with some oomph to it, and leaves nice rings of lace. Nose is sharp pine edge and a light husky grain. Interesting. Flavour also has the hint of pine, a bit of bready malt, some grass and a mild bitterness in the finish. Light body, but not overly so, and not too heavy carbonation. Quite good, and surprisingly so despite my expectation. Refreshing, clean, but with a solid flavour and mouthfeel. Very drinkable. Not as full flavoured as a extreme beer, or even a good IPA of course, but for what it is, I'm very impressed.

Bottle from the LCBO- A deep golden pour topped with a frothy and long lived white cap. Nose of cooked vegetables, butter, some pale malts. Tastes of vegetables with sweet butter, some rancid stale pale malts. Not good at all. Awful. One of the worst of the year for me.

Since I have been on pause drinking beer I figure it is time to return to my passion.

Poured into a pilsner glass at 45 degrees:

Appearance: A two finger white head that is foamy white and had a little retention. The colore of the beer is a pale straw color. There is a lot of carbonation in the beer. The clarity of the beer is clear to brilliant. The head left a lot of lacing on the glass.

Nose: A nice wheat aroma with citrus, yeast and floral. There is a subtle sweetness in the back ground of the beer and hint of corn.

Taste: A very nice wheat flavor with a touch of citrus, floral, and a hint of corn.

Overall: The body of the beer is light. The mouth feel of the beer is carbonated but flated and kinda solventy. The finish on the beer is light. This is overall a good Pale wheat beer it has a light flavor and a clean and crisp finish.

I don't know what is with all the bad reviews whining about a clear bottle, this beer was a nice surprise to me.

Pours a dark gold with a nice creamy white head that stays until the last drop, very nice looking lager.

Smells citrusy, bready with some nice spicey hops coming through at the end. The clear bottle didn't skunk it up.

A nice tasting lager, nice sweet citrus, some bready malts and a nice spicy hop finish.

This is a very smooth and creamy lager, pretty heavy almost like an ale, but very enjoyable.

Clear bottle has my skunk alert on high alert.

Whew! Must be a fresh case as not a whiff of skunk. Nice golden yellow with a nice 2 fingered head, slight fizzy, and loads of lacing.

Aroma is mostly husky grain. Certainly no hint of hop or sitrus as mentioned on their website.

Taste is pure grainy malt @ first, followed by a weak sweetness. Certainly no hop bitterness @ all until well after this beer has been swallowed. Leaves a dry citrus-like aftertaste. As one reviewer mentioned, very one dimensional.

Fairly light bodied and quite watery.

Pretty sure this brewery and beer is looking towards the 2010 Olympics as an opportunity to make some $$$ on unsuspecting vistors ( this beer was served in the Canada Pavilion in Beijiing 2008). Mediocre @ best I'm afraid.

Pours gold in colour, very clear with small head. Smell is mostly malts, bread and toasted almost burnt sugar. Taste is the same with kinda sweet unpleasant aftertaste. Medium bodied a bit over carbonated. It's kinda drinkable, but really, I don't think it's a good lager. Next one please.

Export lager? Go right ahead- export it.

This is a mainstream beer, to be served to your dad who is too set in his ways to drink an ale.

Slightly above the taste and quality of a big-brewery, fizzy, corn-sugar lager, I would support this only to see money go away from a mega-corp, brewing its swill for the masses.

Color- nice. Yellow, with a hint o' orange. Nice head.
Smell- Eh! Lager smell. Nothing special.
Taste- a bit of malt, a bit of hops. A lager yeast. Not too bad, actually.
Mouthfeel- feels like lager. That's a good thing.
Drinkability- Sure, if there's nothing else. Better than a Coors lite or a Molson Canadian, that's for sure.

NOTE: Is it just me, or does anyone else find it odd that the spell checker used on this website always flags "Mouthfeel" and "Drinkability" as incorrectly spelled words?
I can't decide if I'm amused or annoyed when it happens. Amused, I suppose.

I share the trepidition of everyone else regarding the clear bottles, but let's see how she holds up as a result... Pours out a deep clear golden, lots of carbonation, and capped by a high foamy white head with decent retention. Sharp grains on the nose at first, but they soften up a bit. Also a bit of grassy hops. Mostly light grainy malt in the flavour, and somewhat watery at that, one-dimensional. Mouthfeel is light and watery as well.

Bottle courtesy of Irondjin: Poured a deep golden color lager with a big pure white bubbly head with average retention and some good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with no adjunct detected. Taste is dominated by some sweet malt with no noticeable hops which could have increase the profile of this beer. Body is average for the style with some good carbonation. Overall, not a bad attempt but lacking some element to makes this truly interesting.

Appearance - Good looks for a lager, bubbly, leaving wisps on the glass.

Smell - Slight sweet smell with hints of wheat.

Mouthfeel - A light body, with a smooth texture.

Taste - Slight sweet malt flavor, most noticable in the aftertaste, and improving as you drink.

Drinkability - Refreshing.

I just picked up this beer today and all I have to say (that will confer with the other reviewer) is in... oh sh.., clear bottles. The taste is otherwise not noteworthy except for the refreshing water that was used to produce the beer. The mouth feel seems a bit heavier then a typical lager should be.

Clean with no discernable aftertaste but a slight coaxing that another few tastes might allow the beer to become more discernable. A light hop presence is noted before the malt balances the tone. On a final note, this beer is one to be had when there aren't many other choices out there.

From notes taken in May.

Uh oh...a lager in a clear bottle! This is actually okay. It looks okay, but is a little too dark and yellow. Smells malty, very little hops. Not skunky, and no grassy smell. I can’t tell if there are any adjuncts or not. Tastes not too sweet, not to bitter. Malt, and I think I can definitely taste an adjunct in there. Hops hardly present. Carbonation is good, quite drinkable but best served cold.
