This dark pilsner has, over the years, become a clear sign that Christmas is upon us. The annual launch in Denmark, known as 'J-day', takes place the first Friday in November and is a day of celebration across Denmark. Carlsberg employees drive around in truck to visit bars and cafés while singing the traditional Tuborg Christmas Brew song and handing out free beer to the guests to mark the start of the festive season.
The beer itself is a bottom-fermented wiener beer brewed on lager, münchener and caramel malt, and added English liquorice. The beer is dark-golden with a fresh aroma of caramel, cereal, liquorice and blackcurrant.

A very good Christmad beer. I had a bottle poured into a tulip glass at the Backpack Cafe in Iceland. It has a nice dark gold color, a good sized foamy white head with good retention and no lacing. Aroma and taste include caramel malt, some Christmas spices like nutmeg and a little dark fruit. Mouthfeel was crisp, spicy and light. I had it with a burger and it went down very easy

Fantastic festive ale. Got into this whilst living over in Denmark for 10 months and experiencing j-dag. Import a crate every year. Highly recommended.

This beer is a precise representation of exactly how The CANQuest (TM) should operate - rastapenguin22 scored himself a sixer, checked my list on Google (accessible from my homepage), realized that I had never reviewed it, sent me a feeler BM, we set up a trade and off I go! People, it's just that easy - if it is in a CAN and I have not reviewed it, the odds are in your favor that I want it. Please trade some new CANs with me! It's the easiest thing ever and you will have no regrets.
From the CAN: The graphics were the mirror image of the shrink-wrap 6-pack holder rastapenguin22 also sent me. Thank goodness, as Santa and the sleigh are supposed to be following in the wake of the Tuborg truck, NOT headed for a head-on collision! That would have given me nightmares from which I may not recover. Lotsa Danish on this bad boy: "Glaedelig jul og godt Tub'ar ..."; "Tuborg JULEBRYG fylder 30 Tub'ar ..."; "Scan og spil pakkleg"; "Saml sa mange J-Pakker du KAN. Vind 30,000 Kr. I Kolde Kontanter! Du skal bare hente app'en til Tuborg Julebrygs pakkeleg: Scan koden pa etiketten eller Hent J-pakkeleg i App Store elller Android Market" ("Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ...", "Tuborg Christmas beer turns 30 Years ...", "Scan and games package", "Gather as many J-Packs you CAN. Win £ 30,000 In Cold Cash. You just need to download the app for Tuborg Julebrygs package: Scan code on label or Download J-pakkeleg the App Store or Android Market.)" Contest ended 22 December 2011.
A Rexam CAN, er, KAN, BTW. I had a nice Crack & Glug which produced a finger-and-a-half of rocky, tawny head with moderate retention. Nose was lager-like, clean and pleasantly sweet, but also underlain with a mild spiciness, perhaps cinnamon? Color was a deep orangish-amber with NE-quality clarity. BUPGOO! My first mouthful evinced a beer with medium-to-full mouthfeel and a lager sweetness backed by a woody, spicy character, reinforcing my belief that cinnamon was somehow involved. The finish was very dry, probably from the presence of the spice. I thought that this was quite enjoyable, made all the more so from a KAN, but it would be quickly supplanted if Anchor ever begins CANning their Christmas ale. More damning with faint praise.
