Cask at the Blind Tiger in NYC.

Pours inky black with a half-finger light brown head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of roasted malt with dark chocolate undertones and very light hints of roasted coffee.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Strong roasted malt flavors up front are joined shortly by dark chocolate flavors that lurk in the background, providing a lot of body but not a lot of sweetness. Very mild roasted coffee flavors sneak into things midway through the sip but fade out before a solidly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is very good. It's got a smooth thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is also very good. I finished my glass quickly and could have another.

Overall I found this to be a very good stout, whether it be Irish or American, that drank almost like a double stout with regards to the thickness. Will be eager to try another beer from these guys the next time I'm in the area. Definitely worth a shot.

On nitro at the brewery.

Poured a deep black hue with a half finger frothy off white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured clean roasted malts and charcoal.

The taste consisted of a clean and dry burnt grain with elements of coffee and a touch of smoke.

The mouthfeel was toward the drier side of the style.

Overall a very good IDS.

Pours black with a light brown head. Lacing sticks.

The smell is of strongly roasted coffee, without being burnt, with toffee/caramel.

The taste is of roasted espresso with chocolate and caramel. It has a dry-roasted finish.

Roasty notes hang on in a long finish. Creamy enough and smooth.

This is a well-made, robust version of an Irish dry stout! Slainte!

Went into this one completely blind; no tasing before I took this home. I poured this "black gold" into a glass mug and it did not disappoint. This beer is one of the darkest beers I have ever seen; the body was pitch black with a very dark brown, but small head. Smelled fairly roasted with hints of coffee coming through. Brewed with multiple barleys gave it a fair balance of tastes. tasted very roasted and, at first, tasted hints of coffee. As your palette grows accustomed to the coffee taste, the roasted and bitterness begins to come through, balancing each other very nicely. The mouthfeel, despite looking thick, was fairly average. If you are looking for something as thick as Guinness, you will not find it here. By no means is it thin either; it is just right and very good. Typical of most, good stouts, this beer is very drinkable. It is not too bitter, so you can drink it continuously. While it is very dark, it is not too thick, so it wwill not make you feel bloated or too full very quickly. I definitely could have drank the whole growler by myself with no problem.

The beer pours a dark black color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has an earthy black malt and roasted scent as well as a dry Irish stout aroma. I feel this beer is an Irish stout, not American. Anyway, the taste is awesome. It's as smooth a stout as I've ever had. It has a nice black malt character and not much else. It's simple, yet well done; very drinkable. The mouthfeel is good. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a tremendous Irish stout. It's sessionable and highly enjoyable. Great job!

I drank an entire one-day-old growler of this while tailgating before an Iron Maiden show - four consecutive pint glasses full. The entire thing went down without the slightest feeling of bloat, and the low alcohol allowed me to completely keep my senses so I could enjoy the show.

The three other people I was with that were drinking Neill's beers polished off another two growlers of this stout with ease.

Another mark for amazing drinkability and sessionability.

On-tap at the brewery. Pours a deep brown, almost black, with zero light penetration and a dense, half-inch, latte-colored head. Nose expresses light roast and lactose. Taste follows nose with a pleasant, roasty, malt profile - flavors are closer to an Irish Dry Stout than an American Stout in my opinion. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with a silky/creamy texture. Easy drinking and, in my opinion, reminiscent of a Murphy's Stout. That being said, it just seemed to fall a little short of my expectations for the style in that it was missing the characteristic chocolate notes in the flavor profile. All and all, a better alternative to a Guinness, hand's down.

From a growler fill sampled between fridge and cellar temperature. Friends and I recently brought three jugs of this all-day quaffer to the Maiden show and it was sublime in many ways... now it's time for the offical review.

Appearance- Unfiltered and chocolate brown, this pours nicely and creates a slow, wonderful three-finger crown. Black in the glass, with no light penetration. Good lacing.

Smell- Dark, bittersweet chocolate and roasted malts, with a hint of coffee. Bury your nose in this glass and it's just amazing. There's a real freshness about the nose, like when there's a pot of coffee brewing in the room you're standing in.

Taste- Smooth and chocolately, with an accompanying richness of deep roasted coffee and espresso beans. A whipping yet mellow hop bitterness caps the swallow, drying the mouth for the next impending gulp.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability- Just the right activity and light carbonation for the style, never becoming gassy or heavy. We drank these like water before the show and it always remained light and superbly drinkable. Neill's "Ace" in the hole thus far.
