On cask at Andy's Corner Pub in Bogota, NJ. Poured into a small stange.

Pours a dark, burnished brown that's fairly translucent, with ruby edges. Cream-colored head is big and frothy, with a lot of bubbles that take a fair amount of time to dissipate, leaving soapy lacing coating the inside of the glass. Smell is mildly sweet, with notes of caramel and the titular honey. Concentrated whiffs reveal a malty base, with a slight hint of vanilla. Intriguing to say the least.

First sip leads off with a little bit of the sweet caramel from the nose, followed by a malty character that provides a majority of the flavor for this brew. Unfortunately, the honey is quite subdued, and it's just barely detectable. It's not a good thing when you have to make your senses work to find the signature component of the beer. There is zero hoppiness in this and no alcohol taste, which is par for the course with porters. On the finish, the taste just falls off the map. It's completely neutral on the palate, as if it was never in your mouth. Weird, and a little disconcerting. The mouthfeel is decent, with a slick, not-quite-oily feel and a medium body. Finish is pretty dry.

Defiant is a brewery right in my backyard, but so far, the things I've had from them have been pretty average. Not to say that this is a bad beer, but it's just so... bland. It started out pretty well, but then just dropped the ball tastewise. Being that they've put a seemingly good porter out on the market already, you'd think they could make something interesting with this. Oh well!
