Pors a very dark somewhat burgundy brown. The tan head fades a bit, but a nice thick filmy ring leaves behind some great lace.
Wonderful chocolate and rasberry aroma. The two aromas seem well balanced.
Good flavor. Very distinctive flavors on various parts of the tounge and mouth. Chocolatey up front and on the gums. Rasberry is more noticeable mid-sip on the front to middle of the tounge. A slight bitterness hides under the sweetnes at the finish. Overall sweet, but very balanced and very yummy.
Medium to full bodied. Highly carbonated. Tart with a bit of a traction to it.
Really like this one. Is a nearly perfect desert beer. Great with ddark chocolate. Highly drinkable.

A: A small finger of tan head was built in a standard pint glass and quickly fell. The beer is a very dark brown with a ruby red complexion when backlit and looks very clear, no haze.

S: The nose is full of raspberry candy (think jolly ranchers) with some underlying cocoa notes. Not getting much else.. no roast or hop or esters of any kind. mostly the raspberry.

T: Raspberry tartness is dominant on the first sip. More fresh tasting then the aroma would indicate. Balance is on the sweet side with the malts taking a back seat to the flavorings. The cocoa comes through after the palette adjusts to the raspberry. No roast character or malt chocolate notes but there is some burnt toast and biscuit flavors that come through. No hop flavor and bitterness is very very low.

M: A crisper lower bodied beer. carbonation is on the medium side also. There is a lingering tartness left on the tongue from the flavorings.

O: The base beer doesn't come though much in this one so if you are a fan of brown porters this one probably isn't for you. If you like raspberry and want it in a beer maybe this is in your wheelhouse. Its a well brewed beer, technically speaking, I'm just not a fan of the flavorings.

Sprecher Generation Porter

Poured from a 16 oz bottle into a Samuel Adams perfect pint. Served chilled.

A) Dark brown with a finger of light tan head. Decent retention and lacing. Settles in like a muddy cola.

S) For me, the raspberry dominates the aroma, and I like it. A little chocolate powder and light roast.

T) The flavor is a bit more chocolatey than the aroma. There is a little touch of caramel sweetness too. Although, much Iike the nose, tart raspberry is the lead dog start to finish. I preferred the flavor of this brew at a colder temperature.

M) Medium bodied with lighter carbonation. Pretty easy drinking, with a dry leafy raspberry finish.

O) Well, of the leftover Sprecher beer from Christmas at my Grandma's house, this has been my favorite thus far. Not bad at all, actually fairly tasty. I like the addition of the raspberry, but then again, I like raspberry. If you don't, this probably isn't for you. Cheers!

Vintage 2006 16oz bottle poured into a Lakefront Brewery pint glass.

Appearance- Dark but not as motor oil black as some porters that I've had. Very little white head that dissipated fairly quickly.

Smell- All raspberry here. Not terrible smelling if you like that kind of thing which I do but not nessicarily in a porter. I was expecting possible chocolate or coffee scent in at least an underlying smell.

Taste- The fist sip I get a lot of the raspberry with faint chocolate. I don't know if the aging has affected the beer but it has become almost wine like. Just like wine, as it warmed the fruit really came out and killed any of the few complex flavors I did get in the first sip.

Mouthfeel- Basically as stated above, very very wine like.

Overall- Very disappointed because I give it an A on concept but a D on execution. I wish that I had tried a freshly brewed one because I have a belief that the chocolate was more prevalent and probably worked much better.

Opened the bottle at a good temperature and immediately smelled raspberries. Poured with a smallish light tan, creamy head that settles to a nice thin cover and a little lace. Color is a clear, dark red brown with some bubble trails. Aroma is overpowering rasberry with some roast malt in the background somewhere. Flavor's like nose, has berry and carbonic tartness clashing with some bitter and sweet. And it doesn't work at all. Body is hurt by the clashing and strong carbonation. Finish is like flavor, unfortunately persistant, and I'm dumping this. Bleh.
