This beer pours a cloudy golden color but unfortunately there was a very small head that faded quickly (old bottle?). The smell was very bready and yeasty with a grainy edge to it. The taste was sweet upfront from the grains and wheat. The spices came out next mostly being clove. The base seemed to come from the yeast and that lasted until the finish, which was dry and slightly tart. There was a slight hoppiness in this beer as well but it didn't really stand out to me. This was a slightly sweet, very smooth beer but it didn't quite have the bite that it's German brethren have that make their hefe's so amazing.

Just had a quarter barrel of this at a Brewer Game yesterday. It was a sunny and hot day and this beer couldn't have hit the spot anymore. It has a wonderful cloudy appearance with a nice fluffy head. What I really like about this beer, besides the fact that it tastes great out of a boot, is the clove presence. The subtle hints of spice and cloves rounds this out perfectly. Great beer!

Pours a sparkling gold that grows hazy when the yeast is swirled and added, hints of orange. The head was only two fingers tall, and quickly crackled away leaving no lacing, very disappointing for a Hefe, when it was there it was white in color.
Clove, tobacco, spicy, wheat aroma.
Crisp taste, grass, fruity and spicy, banana aftertaste.
Light bodied, maybe a bit too spicy of a flavor to enjoy too often, and the head was awful.

Nice start to this brew, hefty head, promising looking yeasty haze. A swirl and pour of the bottle's last remains helps substantiate the beer's medium body. The aroma is citrusy with lemon and some banana. However, there's a bit of funk in here. Some strange farm, horse blanket notes are detected in the aroma and flavor. Hmm...this is a Hefe Weizen and not a lambic (?) - curious. Mouthfeel is spot on for a Hefe. Though this brew seems to be well regarded, it seems as though I'm not enjoying it as much. I'm a fan of a good Hefe but this is a bit off.

Pours with a two-finger head that goes quickly and leaves no lace. Medium carbonation. Cloudy amber color. Nose is yeasty. Light bodied, I expect a little more beef with a hefeweizen. Starts with a wheat/yeast flavor and finishes with a yeasty aftertaste. It is though, a good summer beer. $1.95 for a 16oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, MA.

16ozer bottle from prepackaged mixed 8-pack from Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/4 inch tall white head which quickly faded to almost nothing. A pleasant cloudy lemony-gold in color, average lacing present. Good malty, grainy smell like you should have in a hefe. Flavor consistant with aroma and style, pretty much it is what it is advertised as. Would have no problems enjoying this one again.

Pours a hazy yellow with a billowing explosive white head, with huge bubbles, from the fat 16 oz bottle.

Lemon, grasses and a little pollen come through with the big yeast rush.

Chuck full of yeast and a little bit tart to start. Sits a little thin on the tounge but is by no way bad. Finishes slightly dry with a lot of that sweet flowery aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is just a little on the "not chewy enough" side for a Hefe.

Drinkable to all.

A few years ago, before the brewery started to pastuerize their products this Hefe Weizen was one of my favorites that could stand up against the best of the German imports. Now, it is kind of bland, in my opinion. Nonetheless here is my review:

The appearance of the beer is typical of your hefe weizen slightly cloudy with a decent foamy head.

Smells kind of like cloves/bananas and invites me to drink it.

Taste - although it still is a decent hefe, it just seems that it does not pack as much punch as it once did. Maybe I had a bad bottle, but it tasted almost like a maco's version of their hefe weizen. To be fair, I will try and find a freshly bottled version, but the bottle I had left me somewhat dissapointed.

Hazy yellow color. Looks nice and cloudy. Head is gone shortly after beer is poured.

Smells like a banana's and wheat... very sweet smell, like a banana split!

Great wheat flavor. Everything I like about a wheat. Sweet banana flavor with great wheat accents. Bitterness is controlled by sweetness.

I would like this to be a little thicker in the mouth. It's a little too water, carbonation doesn't give the smooth thick feel instead feels a little crisp.

A very drinkable beer. Great flavor and a great finish. I could definitely have a few of these in one sitting!

Bright appearance, high yellow gold color with solid white head.

The smell is brilliant yeasty bready yet fruity.

Taste has some fantastic flavors of banana, clove, and spice, works well in the summer and the fall, winter, and spring.

I highly recommend this Hefe, I've had few that are this tasty let alone at the availability of this beer.

If you've had other Sprecher and been disappointed, i.e. the Abbey Triple, Maibock, or Imperial Stout, you should try this and the black bavarian, it will reaffirm faith in this brewery.

Decent yes, good, not really! As a hug fan of this style the first thing I like to see is that great white head coming off the pour. Not here-just a little tease, then a little ring with nearly no lace. The color is near what it need be, but not impressive in any way. Aromas hint at banana and citrus. The mouthfeel is nice and zippy, offering good refreshment. The taste is above average but there are so many good examples out there, that this one just cannot be lumped in with the very good, and rather stiff competition. Clean and crisp with citrus and some rustic malted whole grain notes followed by a snappy finish-an above average effort-no more.

Appearance: hazy orange color, thick, though heavily populated with floating yeasties, with a bubbly white head, a solid collar, that thins out rather quickly.
Aroma: banana notes come off quickly out of the nose, available from far-off, but let's bring it in, for a further sniff...there it is, soft, smooth, creamy, spicy, thick with the banana, lessening some as we go. Good ol' Bavarian character is in full effect.
Taste: nice, neat little hoppiness up front, solid body, very mellow and smooth, high drinkability factor on this one.
But a bit too mellow for me...really stand-out weizens make a bigger impression, and this one lies down too easily. Lies down, I say, but doesn't keel over, exactly. Very nice hefe weizen, all told.

Color is a nice golden haze, solid through and through, small thinnish tight creamy smooth white head appears then fades fairly fast to leave a thin but bubbly ring and drippy lace. Smell is of musty yeast and lemon, with hints of banana and clove coming through, not as strong of a nose I like to have in a hefe but is nice and becomes more noticeable as it warms. Taste is lightly playful of lemon and banana fruits with some small hops, yeast, and clove sparkling in and out as it dwindles down with a smooth easy start, well balanced flavors, and picks up some solid carbonation as the midway point makes for a dulled hop bite and leaves hints of banana at first in the finish but lends away to clove much later on the palette. This was remarkably easier to drink as it warmed, very mellow, calming yet lively enough for a twist in your senses saying "hello, your drinking something good here, so enjoy."

Presentation: A very distinctive squat, short necked, yet larger than normal brown glass bottle. The label has a Teutonic looking Coat of Arms and the word Sprecher in Germanic font. This is repeated in the bulge of the neck, where the word ‘Sprecher’ in raised lettering is molded into the bottle at two locations. A twist crown cap is not unusual, but the 16 fluid ounce, equal to 1 US Pint (a.k.a. One UK “Jessie” Pint, or a 20% short measure) is not. Packaged Date is 06/18/03.

Appearance: A beautiful looking golden straw color, more hazy - than cloudy. A lovely smooth tight head comprised of compacted small bubbles rest atop the beer throughout. It looks great and very appetizing. Solid inherent carbonation.

Nose: Fantastic. A mix of freshly peeled Banana’s and Cloves that are the classic traits of this style, but they are here in perfect balance. A very comfortable warming feel, akin to that which you get when you sit inside your first New Car, you just sit and continually breathe it in. Wow!

Taste: Gorgeous. A really well-balanced, appetizing Wheat Beer. Banana’s & Cloves lacerate the beers appeal, whilst a slight hop bitterness and some citric hints hide in the background like an unassuming person caught in the periphery of the lens of a filming Camera Crew, they want to enter the affray but fear for their imminent exposure. As such the citric hops seem to stay firmly in the sidelines.

Mouthfeel: A light body is aided by the fruity banana-ery aspects of this Weiss beer. Light but wholesome somehow, weird!

Drinkability: Easily dispatched, I had no problems whatsoever hiding the full US pint on my own. Refreshing and well-balanced.

Overall: I am quietly impressed by this Hefe Weiss, mainly because was I expecting a very yeasty Teutonic offering. In reality, this is a very ‘fresh’ tasting Germanic Wheat Beer. Solid, fresh, inviting, floral, yet fruity at times. Very nice and highly quaffable!

“Danke” to BigHuge for this One.

When this beer was poured into my glass, it poured a medium sized white head that quickly dissolved with fine-small sized bubbles. There was no lacing observed with this beer. There was a lot of yeast observed along with a cloudy body and a yellow hue. The nose of this beer was that of clove. The mouthfeel was watery and thin. This beer lacked character in my opinion.

This brew pours a medium head of fine to large white bubbles and a slightly cloudy straw yellow body. It has banana clove aroma and a smooth initial flavor rush of banana and apricot. It finishes with a slight tingling mouth feel. The buttery notes of a Hefe-Weiss are just barely present. It is just an average at best Hefe-Weiss.

I liked this one, and maybe it tasted even that much better now that the weather is getting Summery around the Upper Midwest. It pours a cloudy kind of golden with nice bright white head. The aroma is there- cloves bready yeast but mild and not as complex as the best. It has a solid medium body that has a good bready malt and yeast flavor and a spicy clove finish with a slight lemony tartness. A very solid hefe.

Pours a hazy, light golden in color with a white delicate foamy head, that disappears after a few minutes. Aroma consists of cloves, fruit (mostly banana) and grain. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with a thin body. Light wheat flavor. The spicy middle has a mild bitterness as it turns to the finish. Finish is light with hints of banana present. Not being a big fan of Hefe Weisse style, I do recognize this beer as quality brew, but this is just not my favorite style.

Hazy ochre color, head calms to a skim after 20 seconds. Honeyish aroma, yeasty. Heavy on the banana ester side, just a touch of citrus and a slight cotton-candy flavor and mouthfeel. Hops minimal. Some sense of cinnamon in the aftertaste. This is a good Hefe here, not a favorite style for me -- but very tasty.

Appearance is a hazy golden with a nice fluffy white head. Really nice vanilla aroma on the nose. It smells delicious. The vanilla is dominant on the palate as well and it is delicious. There's also a tad bit of spiciness. It doesn't seem to be a hop type of spiciness however. More like a subdued pepper taste. Light to medium bodied. Great beer for poolside lounging. A nice effort from Sprecher.

Nice stab at a hefeweizen.
Pours a heavily-clouded orange. Whipping cream-like head. Lasts the duration.
Banana and clove on the nose.
Taste is dominated by these as well. Big fruitiness. Underlying carmel. Hops balance things, but are not otherwise assertive.
Mouth is creamy without being too heavy. Carbonation keeps things quite lively.
This one is right up there with some of my favorite weizens.

Presentation: On tap @ The Gingerman, Chicago, IL.

Appearance: Cloudy caramel orange in colour with a tightly carbonated creamy off white lace that sitcks.

Smell: Sweet malt, touch of raw grain, clove and big banana aromas.

Taste: Slightly twangy upfront with a nice floral/citrus hop bitterness. It doesn't last long as clove spice notes quickly break things up, followed by the malt ... which is unexpectedly sweet and caramel-like, with an underlying fresh grain flavour and crispness. Notes of ripe banana blend nicely with the malt character, rounding them off. Mouthfeel is smooth, slick. Body is close to medium and consistent. Finishes with a touch of grain dryness on the palate.

Notes: The balance on this brew is perfection, and the malt richness stands out as a nice twist on the style. Thoroughly enjoyable and recommended.
