I bought a 16oz bottle of this for about $1.80 at Woodman's in Janesville, WI in early fall 2010.

This pub brown ale pour a medium dark brown color. It starts out with a heavy taste of malted barley. It has a very complex flavor but finishes very smoothly. Probably not going to be an award winner but still a good beer to try!

Pours brown with a thin head. Broken rings of lacing stick.

The smell is of caramel and nuts. Mild, but pleasant.

The taste is of caramel/toffee with nuts. A hint of chocolate comes through as it progresses. A subtle fruit character in the finish balances out the sweetness without making it bitter.

The feel is full enough to keep the flavor lasting, while being light and smooth enough to be "sessionable".

A well-made, well-balanced easy drinking English-style ale. (Goes well with meatloaf.)

Sprecher Pub Brown

Poured from a 16 oz bottle into an English style dimpled pint glass. Served chilled...

A) Copper/Amber color. There was a relatively small cream colored head. Decent retention. No lacing noted...

S) A fairly sweet aroma that consisted of caramel/toffee notes. Light malt, bready, toasted whole grain bread.

T) Follows the nose... The malty sweetness is balanced out with some light hop bitterness.

M) The body is a lighter medium with somewhat lively carbonation. It's pretty easy drinking, fairly crisp, and has a slightly dry finish.

O) This is an average brown ale. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but I wouldn't turn it down if I was offered one.

16 ounce bottle into imperial pint glass, bottled on 1/10/2012. Pours slightly cloudy reddish copper color with a 2 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of caramel, chocolate, biscuit, toast, brown sugar, light roast, floral, herbal, light raisin, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of dark/toasted malt notes and light hops; with good strength. Taste of caramel, chocolate, biscuit, toast, brown sugar, light roast, floral, herbal, light raisin, and toasted earthiness. Light earthy floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, chocolate, biscuit, toast, brown sugar, floral, herbal, light raisin, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance of malt and hop notes; with decent robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a nice session brown ale. Fair amount of flavor and good balance; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
