16 oz bottle poured into a Sprecher pokal glass.
6% ABV, 14030 Julian date.

A - Below the shroud of thick egg shell-colored lacing lies a well-maintained skim of foam and crystal clear, gorgeously raw honey colored deep golden beer, filled with steady, slow streaming, tiny carbonation bubbles.

S - Sprecher's Mai Bock wafts soft, warm white bread to the nostrils with slightly browned crusts and caramel pralines adding delicate and welcome sweetness to the mix for a malty and beautifully simplistic aroma.

T - A near mirror image of the aroma, this mai bock follows through on it's aromatic promise of sweet caramel notes underscoring a warm, fresh bread-flavored maltiness that doesn't dabble in complexity but stays straight-forward.

M - That touch of caramel sweetness in the flavor doesn't last long on the tongue as the airy and lively carbonation scrubs the tongue through the medium body to it's dry, almost slightly metallic finish.

O - Sprecher's Mai Bock is perfectly suited for a Wisconsin spring that occasionally spikes with warmth but still drops to chilling temperatures. It's smooth body balances between light and refreshing and fuller and sustaining as the malt touches on caramel sweetness and freshly baked bread with a dry finish and clean drinkability.

Pours golden amber with a thin white head. Some lacing sticks.

The smell is of soft/mild caramelized bread. Not robust in aroma but pleasant in a subtle way.

The taste is of bread with some caramel. Not too sweet - some drying noble hops give a floral finish to it. Slight hint of warming alcohol is fitting for the style.

It is crisp. Overall, it's pretty smooth, though it is slightly astringent.

Overall, it's a well-balanced maibock and an enjoyable brew.

I've bought this every year since it's been available -- surprised to find I've never reviewed it. Maibock is probably my favorite style next to Oktoberfest, and Sprecher beers have been a favorite since 1985.

A -- Clear, deep amber-gold with a long-lasting, firm, cream-colored head.

S -- Mildly fruity and spicy nose with bready maltiness making up the backbone.

T -- Bready maltiness up front with some spicy hops following through and the yeasty breadiness in the finish. There's a definite spicy-bitterness that lingers through the aftertaste.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft, finishing dry, with a medium to light-heavy body.

O -- This isn't as smooth as some Maibocks to be had, being dry in the finish with a mild astringency from the dryness. But the malty goodness of the beer makes this a great drinker for anyone craving a Maibock this season.

16 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 1/26/2012. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of carbonation streaming up retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, apple, pear, toast, toffee, biscuit, light nuttiness, floral, light pepper, and herbal earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, pear, apple, pepper, toast, toffee, biscuit, light nuttiness, floral, and herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, light fruits, pepper, toast, toffee, biscuit, light nuttiness, floral, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice flavor balance with good complexity; good amount of robustness; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, smooth, and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with nearly zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice maibock! Very nice balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering; and great example of the style.

A: Sraw yellow to pale sunset orange color. crystal clear with no haze or sediment. A constant half finger of soft pillowy white. Chunky lacing down the side of the pilsner glass.

S: Clean fruit like esters. Spicy hop character. Sweet with a hint of bread.

T: A clean sweet and grainyness with bread crust and lingering toast astringincy.

M: light clean body with a high level of carbonation

O: Very easy drinking Maibock with no alcohol hotness like I usually get with the higher end of this style. The graininess was a bit astringent, but I can deal with it because of the crispness and cooler temperatures.
