First I don't think this should be listed as an Altbier since an altbier is a style of German Brown ale, and this is listed as an Alt Pale Ale. Appearance is pretty typical of a pale: bright, transparent amber color with energetic effervescing. Thick sticky white head clings to the glass. Smell is pretty benign, mild malt and some dank hops. Taste is a decent balance of malty and hoppy. Bread, lemon grass, and light peppery finish. Definitely some unique qualities to the malt that you don't see too often. Light bodied, high carbonation. Overall solid pale with some good malt presence, very different from most altbiers. Solid, but probably not going to be a go to for me.

22 from the fridge.. Thought I reviewed this a few weeks back, but found it tonight.

Pours a clear dark golden.. short lived white head... no real lacing.

Nose actually really nails it with a PNW emphasis ... big floral hops... a bit perfumy with a sorta dirty nutty earthy maltiness... well done.

Good bitterness for the style and its PNW origin... dry toasty malt... earthy/floral notes mid palate are nice.. minerally... perhaps some sulfur..

With warmth a fruity ester component rises up.. seems "English" if that helps.

Very drinkable... Lower ABV and a great complexity.... I love it.

Nice beer... weird mix for sure!! PNW vs German vs English... weird but I am honestly loving it... I would drink this all the time... but I doubt it would be commercially viable in the long run.

22 oz bomber bought from "Trader Joe" in Salem OR. $3.49 Pours a pale copper clear colour, with a good sized cream coloured head that stays and stays and stays. Good looking beer. Not much aroma to it mostly cracker/salt malts.some slight floral hops. Taste well balanced but a touch more hop, the alt yeast is strong ( judging by others i have had) in this one. ts pretty much a trad alt with ever so slightlty more hops.. Nice palate..smooth ,low carbonated easy on the taste buds. Odd beer very much a hybrid. Im torn this is a pale ale but by no means an American Pale Ale , also it is not an English Pale Ale. Im thinking American Altbier or German Pale Ale.

12oz

Clear, coppery golden. Lighter than I'm accustomed to seeing in this style. Fizzy off white head that leaves a foamy ring around the glass and a thin sudsy cover across the surface of the beer.

Big malty, bready character predominately with very light grassy hop character.

Medium+ body, foamy, medium carbonation.

A tasty, malty beer. A bit different from what I've had in this style before, but certainly not unpleasant in anyway.

Clear amber color with a fine tall head in the narrow Kolsch glass. Can't fault the sudsy mouthfeel and rich carbonation. Light body, crisp, and tangy.

There is a distinct fruity English flavor, either from the hops or what the brewer calls an "Alt yeast strain." Some malty undertones with a woody taste, hints of chestnuts, walnut skins, and pear skins. It starts bitter and keeps getting more bitter.

The idea of this hybrid style is appealing, but it is too much like the standard Ninkasi profile-- odd dankish hops, a hint of leaf mold, and too much bitterness. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Whole Foods in Encinitas for $4.85.

Pours a hazy orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. A foamy lattice of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, biscuit, and slight citrus like aromas. Taste is much the same with malt and citrus like flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is easy to drink and is an interesting mixture of styles.

This beer is great it is the perfect combination between malty and hoppy. You can feel a slight hop bite on the tongue but it it isn't as strong as you would think a pale ale from Ninkasi would be. If I were to get drunk at a bar drinking one beer this would be it. This is probably my favorite session beer right now. I could actually drink this on the hottest day of the year it is so smooth. Light in color and body with a very clean finish I am very impressed with this beer.
