Ninkasi was one of the first to push Mosaic, but they have since abandoned ship. First consumed at the Sierra Nevada Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild festival in Chico, CA.
Pours golden yellow as familiar of a color as blue sky. Mild tropical effect in the nose, there is Mosaic, but it isn't anywhere near the amount that brewers have pushed since. Hey the acreage was de minimus in 2013. I get it. Just a light passion fruit and tangerine hit.
Taste was pretty easy going, Mosaic really showed that it isn't all that different from a lot of hops out there when used relatively sparingly, but when you amp it up, you don't get the same degree of diminishing returns that you might from more traditional hops. Here its a real light fruit presence, light and tight pale toasted barley. Comes dangerously close to simply being a hoppy blonde ale. There's nothing wrong with that, just understand this isn't the Mosaic bomb ipa you were looking for. This is an introductory level offer.

On tap at the brewery the other evening.
The beer pours a golden amber color with fairly decent head retention and light lacing. The nose has some noticeable tropical fruit fruit from the mosaic hops, but it's not all that prominent. However, what there is blends fairly well with the light pine and dry citrus. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this tasty pale ale, and the beer delivers a fairly decent amount of flavor for a 5.3% abv. beer. This pale ale is very much on the dry side, and mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, with a fairly long, lightly bitter, dry finish. Alcohol is barely noticeable in this pleasant, enjoyable beer.
Nothing extraordinary here, but I still thought this a tasty effort from the folks at Ninkasi.

Pours a clear yellow with a foamy off-white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, earth, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with grain and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with fairly earthy hop qualities all around.
