I poured this into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a nice light golden yellow with carbonation rising at a decent pace filling into a nice one and a half finger white foamy head. This head ends up dissipating within less than a minute and provides a lacing that strings itself all over the sides of the glass. The smell had a nice setting of German pilsner malts coming forth in a slightly nice crisp sweet sort of way. The taste was crisp and sweet just like a Munich Helles lager should be. There is no aftertaste but ends up leaving a crisp dry sweet finish. On the palate, it sat pretty light and once again a nice crispness settles over my mouth and tongue. This had a pretty nice sessionable aspect to it. Overall, in my opinion, this was a good beer for its style. Sure, its nothing over the top but then again, how does any brewery put a Munich Helles lager over the top?

Pours a deep straw color with good carbonation. The nose is grainy with a bit of sulfer. Taste of grains, cracker and sweet bread with a bit of floral on the back end. Mouthfeel is fuller and a bit juicy. It's a pretty beer, a good go to when I want something easy. Good beer.

From notes taken 04/14/16:

Straw gold, excellent clarity, very bubbly. Plenty of smaller particles throughout body, not diminishing clarity. Pure white fizzy head of moderate retention, would be weaker if not for the inwardly tapering, small flute I chose to present this in. Biscuit, grain, bread aromas, clean, Pale Lager-like. Grain-forward, honey notes, some faint generic light fruitiness, and floral, nearly metallic, basic bitterness throughout, culminating in finish. Good balance here. Medium in body. Very soft but abundant suds, only starting out prickly. Crisp.

This helles is a bit on the sweet side, mostly sweet grains in both the flavor and aroma. Any hop influence comes in at the very end, almost killing the sweet aftertaste with a hint of bitterness. I don’t remember the German helles being adjunct grain sweet like this....

Bottled: Dec 15, 2015

Pours a very nice clean/clear golden yellow color, very nice carbonation, with a quick/fizzy small white head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, slight hop note, lemon. The taste is pretty nice, malty, slightly yeasty, slightly hoppy, nice lemon note, nice sweetness. Medium body. Overall, a pretty tasty brew.

12oz bottle poured into a lager glass.

A: Dull golden color with a very slight chill haze. Tight, fine-bubbled white head retains well. Spotty lacing.

S: Dry, crackery Pilsner malt, bit of dough, grain, kiss of floral/herbal hops. Very clean. On point for the style.

T: Grainy, toasty. Herbal hops, grape leaves, lime. Bite of sulfur. Hops peak on the back end with a stiff oily bitterness that carries into the finish.

M: Medium light body with a firm and round malt texture. Highly carbonated. Very crisp.

O: It gets a little bitey, and the hopping is generous. Still a solid effort and a crushable brew.

12oz bottle, last survivor of a 6-pack brought to my parents’ house by my brother’s in-laws. No obvious freshness date on the bottle or label.

Poured into my Jones Radiator mug, this is a clear, pale gold color, with a good-sized, bone-white head that receeded fairly quickly but remained intact as a foam collar afterwards.

The aroma was of light, floral hops and biscuity malts. Seems about right for a Helles.

Light on the tastebuds, as per the style. There’s a mild, grassy hop bitterness, accompanied by a light, lemony citrus flavor, with a biscuit malt backbone that levels out the hops. Not a flavor bomb, but it’s not supposed to be.

Fairly light body, with a crisp, slightly prickly mouthfeel.

A nice, low impact beer that would probably be a knockout in the summertime. This would be a good beer to take a sixer of to a friend’s house to watch a game – it’s got enough flavor to appeal to you, but it’s mellow enough to be acceptable to anyone there that’s a BMC diehard.

A: The beer is crystal clear light yellow in color and has a steady column of bubbles rising from the center of the glass. It poured with a quarter finger high bright white head that quickly died down, leaving a collar around the edge of the glass and a patch of bubbles in the center.
S: Light aromas of bready malts are present in the smell along with notes of grassy hops and hints of spicy hops.
T: The taste closely follows the smell, having flavors of bready malts, notes of grainy malts and grassy hops, and hints of spicy hops. The hops contribute a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and clean on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This Munich Helles Lager has a nice malt undertone but is nice and clean and has just enough bitterness.

Appearance: Pours a golden yellow with a modest head; a few strands of lacing appear

Smell: Fruity and grassy with a lemon chiffon character

Taste: Grainy, up front, with the lemon chiffon tones building in the middle; the sweeter elements build into the finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A decent Helles but just a little too sweet

12-oz pour into a shaker pint glass.

Lux pours a very light straw color. It is crystal clear; I can't overstate the clarity of this beer. It pours an impressive head as well. The smell is a typical lager smell for me, which is not much but a wet grain smell.

The taste is excellent: crisp, refreshing, without too much strength on the malt or hop. It is a very carbonated beer, and leaves a bit of a sting on the tongue.

Overall, a very solid lager from Ninkasi. Lux is probably an excellent summer beer, but it's doing fine in the cooler late fall temperatures.
