Served on tap into a shaker glass.

A- Poured a fairly clear orange color with soapy off-white head that left no lace.

S- Some citrusy hops, herbal hops, and sweet oatmeal notes.

T- Lots of sweet oatmeal notes, bready, some citrusy, herbal, and earthy hops. Moderate to high bitterness.

M- Prickly carbonation, lighter bodied, and semi-dry finish.

O- Hard to believe I have given a proper review to the most popular beer in Eugene. It is not really what I look for in an IPA, lots of the herbal and earthy bitterness that I expect in hoppy Ninkasi beers that just is not really my thing. It was one of the first beers I had when I moved to Oregon and seemed fitting to give it a proper one month before I move away from Oregon. Glad to see Ninkasi's growth and they are an easy brewery to support since they do so many great things in the community, but just not my kind of IPA.

Pours a nice amber color with a good amount of head and leaves nice lacing in the glass. Very little hop aroma but overall good balance between bitterness and body. It would benefit from more flavor in the middle. Mouthfeel is as expected.
Not my first choice but isn't bad in a pinch.

on tap at Ground Kontrol, Portland

Pale amber with off white film.
Pissy, Lemonhedz nose.
Toasted caramel popcorn with pine, sour lemon, and resin hops.
Ruthless pith finish and aspirin linger.
Light, crisp, dry.

Big hop hit but clean finish. Sessionable in that it cleans up after itself. IBU hit over aroma and body - definitely one for the hop heads. Whole is greater than the sum of the parts, but still not a patch on Tricerahops.

A: Dark golden straw color. Light foam. Excellent frothy foam that leaves sticky rings.

S: Lemon zest. Maybe a hint of grapefruit. Good, but not much else there.

T: Same story with the smell. Lemon and grapefruit notes, but not much else. Tiny hints of malt on the hop forward finish.

M: Smooth and not too heavy at first, but it seems to build as it goes down. A bit of a lingering finish, but mostly clean.

O: I've had a number of these, but it's not usually my go to. I like a floral citrus ipa which this hits, but for some reason I just feel stuffed after a pint of this. It never leaves me wanting more.

Good middle of the road IPA deep copper color

smooth, not overly hopped...good food beer; fish, chicken

very little and short lasting white head

citrusy; peppers with slight onion taste (don't knock it until you've tried it) not much else going on

overall a very easy to drink and appreciate beer

On tap in a pint glass @ Delfino's, U Village, Seattle. Pours a coppery color w/ a nice solid head that leaves good lacing.

Aroma is a little muted, wonder how fresh this is. Some floral resinous hops.

Taste is strongly bitter with NW floral hops. Classic Pacific NW IPA territory here. Pale malt keeps it all together but hops are the main attraction.

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, goes down smooth.

Overall a decent American IPA but nothing extraordinary.

Had on tap at Safeco. Review from notes.

A: Pours a amber/copper color with a small off-white head on top. Decent retention with lots of thin lacing let behind.

S: Nice grapefruit aroma with some light citrus. There is a bit of caramel malt and a hint of spice.

T: Nice citrus and grapefruit flavor. There is a bit of lemon/orange zest mixed in a strong caramel bite on the finish. Slight bready malt presence as well.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Easy drinking.

O: A solid IPA, was very happy to have it at Safeco vs. some of the other offerings.

Had this on tap while at the Seattle Mariners game. I was expecting something great here and couldn’t have been more disappointed. Pours a clear golden with a large fluffy white head on top, creamy looking. Aroma is muted, with some light citrus and pine, meager bready malt in the background. Taste follows with a watered down grass hop flavor, not much punch, not a lot of malt backbone. The flavor is really lacking. I guess it's light bodied and easy to drink with medium high carbonation, but that's about all this has going for it. Not any complexity in the flavor. Bleh, just not impressive.

Appearance: orange in color with a one finger head that breaks apart quickly.

Smell: floral hop bitterness with some orange citrus. Light aroma overall.

Taste: caramel, orange, soft grapefruit tones, some pear sweetness, and a floral bitterness. Flavors are nice but could be a bit bolder.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp throughout with some dryness late.

Overall: easy to quaff this beer but it is definitely a standard fare IPA. Decent but no great.

On tap @ the Ninkasi Brewing Company (Eugene, OR) on 9/2/11. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a crystal clear copper, with a ½ finger of bright-white froth. This doesn’t lose a whole lot, retaining with about a ¼ finger or so and slathering the sides of the glass with some rich and sticky lacing. The aroma smells leafy and herbal in the nose, which is layered on top of an underlying mix of bitter citrus and sweet grains that combine to give off a ripe and earthy feeling twang in the nostrils.

Bitter citrus drives the taste with some force, also spreading some herbal textures out in the mouth. The finish is dry and lightly spicy. A sweet and toasty graininess brings the bulk of the sweetness to this but there is also a bit too much of a light darkness to the malts as well that throws this off a bit. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a initial sharpness on the tongue, yet this smoothes out a bit more into a creamy crispness as this stars to move around in the mouth. Alcohol is well hid for almost 8%, with this just having some fullness to the body but that’s about it.

I had this one in the bottle a couple of years ago and remember really enjoying this.
Unfortunately, this pint here at the brewery just wasn’t quite as a robust and flavorful as I remembered for that experience. I don’t want to really comment on the quality of their beer here as they continue to expand and get bigger but I will say that this beer fell far short of what I remember from 2 years ago.

poured deep golden yellow, with quickly disipating head of creamy foam.

smelled very lightly of citrusy hops.

emphasis on a citrus hop experience, but towards grapefruit, and only mildly, compared to double or imperial IPA styles. Only lightly malty. Somewhat one-dimensional, but pleasant enough and more flavorful than an average American lager.

light to medium bodied; clear, not creamy.

An average beer; nothing objectionable, but not really memorable.

On draft in Oregon. Nice color and aroma. I was hoping for something a little different. This a very good ipa. I would Def get it again. Nice bitterness. Lacks pine but does have a classic hoppy ipa profile. I well done beer with a good long finish. Try one.

Clear golden colour with a creamy white head. Fair head retention.

Bright citrus aroma with notes of orange and great floral notes. No malt. Good.

Bright, fresh floral hop flavour with a touch of apple. Not as bright and citrussy as expected. Some grainy malt.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Nice.

A really well balanced IPA with just a hint too much malt in the flavour for me. A little disappointing given the good flavour.

On tap at P.F. Changs in Hillsboro.

Pouring a moderately hazy orange with a dense, off-white head with excellent retention and nice lacing, this is a great looking IPA. The nose is decent. Rather herbal and green with a leafy, citrus aroma, there's some grapefruit and orange. It smells like a lot of Cascades were used here. The malt character is mild, moderately biscuit-like. The palate opens with a moderate hop flavor with a blend of mildly vegetal hop and some fresh citrus. Bitterness is moderate, there's moderate hop flavor here. There's a toasted malt flavor as well here. Moderately bitter and drying on the finish, this beer is medium-light in body with smooth, creamy carbonation and dries out quite nicely on the finish. Not the best IPA out there, but a solid offering, nonetheless.

Served on-tap @ Red Star Tavern & Roast House in downtown Portland. Cheers to Zach and James for a successful video shoot.

Pours a hazed golden-orange with a frothy cap of off-white head. Sweet aromas of honey and malt.

Opens with sweet caramel malt and a less than subdued hoppy bitterness. Two words: balanced perfection. Creamy mouthfeel. Suggestions of juicy, Texas Red Ruby grapefruit and citrus rind. Hints of floral pine and spice. Finishes with a puckeringly tart assertion of marmalade.

I bought a bottle of this at a speciality grocery store in San Francisco. I like this but the hoppiness was a little intense, even for a hop head like me.

Color was a bright orange, nice light white head a little cloudy. Aroma is intense hops, citrus and pine almost flowery. Taste is quite bitter on the front and the back, maybe even a little vegatally. A little too intense to be called very drinkable but great for twelve ounces or so.

On tap at Blind Tiger, poured a taste because I had never heard of the brewery and had to get a pint. The hop aroma won me over then the maltlessness(all hop) sealed the deal as I was craving a clean hop with no sweet taste. M - a little chalky aftertaste but smooths over quickly. Packs a punch with abv which might be closer to 7.2% IMO. Wow, very drinkable considering that, but wouldn't want to stay this bitter nor is it sessionable. Definitely order this if you find it on tap.

Appears golden in color with about half an inch of white head.

Smells very citrusy: I smell a mix of orange and grapefruit. There is also a strong caramel flavor as well.

It tastes much like it smells. There is a nice bitter citrusy flavor: much like orange zest. To complement the citrus flavor there is a dose of caramel flavored malts. The taste ends with a substantial citrusy bitterness. There is a nice subdued citrusy sweetness that complements the bitterness.

The carbonation is around medium.

The drinkability is quite good. I often have three pints of these a night if it's the only thing I like that is on tap.

Overall a nice IPA that has a nice citrus flavor a nice hop flavor and a nice malty caramel flavor.

On tap this poured as a golden straw colored ale, clear and bright with less than an inch of head. There is an apparent hoppy aroma that followed with a similarly dominant slight-hoppy taste followed by the expected bitters - very tasty. I stopped with one. Not to discount its drink-ability, there are just several others I wish to try.

On tap in an old fashioned glass. A finger of pale yellow head on top of a golden orange beer. Very good persistent carbonation.

Smells mostly of grapefruit hops on the nose. Not much else that I was able to detect.

Good bitter citrusy hops, with some malty sweetness to balance it out a bit. Not the most bitter IPA but a good hop flavor.

Very clean beer when swishing it around my mouth. Perhaps a little too clean.

I would be able to have a couple of Total Dominations in a session

Not your run-of-the-mill IPA for sure but hang in there and taste the interesting blend of earthy, piney, hoppy goodness

Appearance: Cloudy golden with a light head

Smell: Piney, earthy, and citrus notes with a slight hint of malt

Taste: Earthy piney hops with some yeast and a bit of funk

Mouthfeel: Long lasting flavor and bitterness

Drinkability: Complex and a sipping beer; it's not as strong as other Ninkasi beers but definitely worth a taste

On draft at Henry's 12th Street Tavern, Portland, Oregon.

Poured a medium copper hue with a one and a half finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured herbal and grapefruit hops.

Herbal and citric hops dominated the taste, with a secondary grainy malt.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style with a strong residual hop spice.

Overall a tasty hop driven, spicy IPA. A good example of the northwest style.

Pint glass on tap at a pizza restaurant.

S-Floral hops dominate with a faint malt sweetness in aroma. Very pleasant.

T-Very hoppy, but balanced by a nice malt presence that is faint, but not overly sweet. Bitter up front, but finishes without the taste buds being assaulted. This was quite good.

M-Smooth and well balanced. Nice carbonation level.

D-This went down very easily and I would readily reach for another. Taste improves as it warms.

I wish this were available in 12 oz. bottles by the six pack. Available only on tap or in 22 oz. bombers for $3.99. A good IPA. Taste is very similar to Tricerops DIPA, but much more drinkable. Well done.
