Glad to see Ninkasi on anchorage shelves.

Oatis pours a thick suprisingly impenetrable black with a nice tan head that lingers well.

Roasted malt dominates the nose with hints of chocolate and vanilla as well.

The flavor is quite nice. Roasted malt is the first dominant flavor, but the oatmeal quickly rises with that signature slick creaminess, although it is in perfect balance with the roasted malt, rather than overshadowing it as can be common in oatmeal stouts, especially bigger ones like this. The finish has a mild bitterness, but is accented mostly by roasted malt. Nice smooth velvety chocolate in the aftertaste where it lingers alongside the roasted flavors.

Mouthfeel is damn close to perfect. A little thicker than your average oatmeal stout, but with the abv checking in just below imperial, i think its perfect. The oatmeal makes its presence known but doesn't overpower. Great mouthfeel.

Drinkability is pretty solid, but the slight increase in viscosity does hamper it a tiny bit, and this one will catch up to you quick at 7.5%. That being said, the abv does not factor into the drinkability as far as heat, very smooth.

Overall a very fine oatmeal stout, and one i will surely be purchasing again soon. Nice and drinkable, yet packed with flavor and substance. A very nice beer, and one i would dare say is my favorite so far from Ninkasi. (although the only others ive had are the IPA and DIPA, haha)

Oh my god! this is the best beer I ever tasted. Chocolate and coffee notes give way to ab absolutely heavy mouthfeel. Very little bitterness. This is what I drink every day, I accept no substitute. I always pour it a little fast so the tan head is nice and thick. There is nothing light and watery about this beer!

A - Perfect Dark. Poured with some creamy looking head.

S - Good Oatmeal stout freshness.

T - Some sweetness at the start followed by bitterness and dark oatmeal.

M - A bit too much bite and carbonation for me but maybe I've been drinking too many aged stouts to be a good judge.

O - A quality choice in the Oatmeal Stout world. Good flavor.

Bottle received in trade from BeerKangaroo, thanks for the opportunity!
Pours a solid dark brown/black with a decent sized bubbly tan head that quickly dissipates to a small cap on top. Aromas of coffee and chocolate with bits of caramel and cereal grains and hints of fruit. The flavor is what I expected from the aroma. Roasted creamed coffee with a touch of chocolate and caramel and a hint of lactose? Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Decent brew, but seems a bit lacking in body and mouthfeel.

A: Pitch black. I wouldn't drink this if the USDA didn't exist.

S: Not much of a smell, which is fine.

T: Oats and alcohol bite, some sweetness. Finishes smooth and creamy.

M: Great, creamy mouthfeel that crawls over your tongue.

O: Good beer, not particularly memorable but a good specimen of its class.

An aggressive pours yields a one finger tan head that sticks around and leaves some lacing.

Smell is sort of subdued, but its clean and there's hints of several components. First is a sweet yeasty smell, some floral notes. Others are fudge, cocoa, coffee, dark fruit like figs and dates.

Taste is great with coffee dominating, and a sweet robust malty quality, perhaps the oats. Chocolate and cocoa is there as well. Very clean taste.

Feel is medium carb and a semi-slick feel. Flavor coats the tongue and then leaves a very dry taste.

Overall I do like this oatmeal stout, as I think its on par with 8 ball stout and some others, pretty good.

A: Black with a short brown head, beautiful.

S: Oatmeal, roasted malt, coffee and chocolate in the nose.

T: Sweet oatmeal, bitter coffee and dark chocolate. Very good.

M: Smooth and full bodied. Very good body for a stout.

O: A delicious stout. I'd love to have a bourbon barrel aged version of perhaps an imperial Vanilla Oatis.
