Consumed April 11th, 2013. Poured into a Klokke Roeland goblet.

Beer pours a very deep, clear amber. One finger tan head becomes sticky lacing on sides of glass in short order.

Aroma is subtle and strange in a good way. Mustard seed, dates and an indistinct herbal note. Slightly peppery.

Flavor is a little boring; restrained, dark juicy malt flavor up front mingles with a dash of dark pitted fruit. Barely perceptible woody bitterness. Despite the 8.5% ABV, there is no trace of alcohol in the flavor or feel.

Mouthfeel is slightly thick and a little bit creamy.

Overall, a nice enough beer but... I'm not sure what the brewer was going for. Drinkable enough but nothing about this makes me want to have it again.

Poured from a standard pressure-cap bomber into a shaker pint glass in high elevation Libby, Mont. No best-by date. Reviewed live.

A- Half-inch cream-colored head. Watery looking head but with a nice, long retention for the higher ABV. Amber color with low carbonation but nice clarity.

S- Bitter and earthy English hops, dark fruits (going to guess dates, because that's what the bottle says, but I never would have guessed that) and a touch of brandy. Brown sugar and earthy ale-yeasts. Not as complex or as bold as I might like.

T- Bitter and metallic, balanced against a caramel malt backbone and the dates. Balance is skewed toward the hops. I was wrong on the British hops, more likely Centennial or Galaxy perhaps. More alpha forward than the aroma would lead me to believe.

M- Light and creamy with a wet finish. Still a strange metallic smack to it though.

O- This beer is pretty good. I first had it in Costa Mesa, Calif. at Taco Asylum when it was just 21st Amendment. I'm glad Ninkasi got in to collab on it. To be fair, it isn't the best either brewery makes, but it gets better as it warms.

Despite the most confusing and cluttered label on any beer ever, this beer is amazingly well balanced and enjoyable. This pours a clean amber with small head and moderate lacing. Feels light bodied, with clean crisp carbonation. Despite the sweetness, it Is almost entirely un-sticky. Flavor is very well balanced, with solid flavor but nothing extraordinary. Sweet figs, malt, and brown sugar With mild hops. None of the 8.5% abv comes through. If i had to give any qualm with thus it would be that it's too mild.
