Nestled amongst the quaint and trendy shops in "downtown" Lewisburg (don't blink or you'll surely miss it), this places screams "college bar". Given the proximity to Bucknell, that's a pretty good assumption. Outside, there a few tables, occupied by the early-returning college students and perhaps a few townies (how many times is the white Camaro with the thumping sound system and the punk kid going to go by, oggling the hotties?). Bud Light banners adorn the outside. My hopes for a quality beer experience sag...
Upon entry, there's a lengthy bar straight ahead. I see some non-BMC taps. $3 pitchers of Yuengling (know to everyone in the NEPA area simply by "lager") you say? Not too bad. $1 off bottles? Sure. We opt for the small, non-smoking section. About 8 booths and a like number of tables. There's still some smoke noticed. God forbid you try to hit this place on a Friday when school is in full swing. You'd probably have to burn your clothes.
Fair-sized chalkboard lists....more than **80** beers in bottles? Wow. 6-packs to go (presumably at the "bend over....this is gonna hurt" price one pays for a 6-packin this ass-backwards state. But I digress...) as well a growlers. Prices for a bottle (sans $1 off night) run from $2.25 to $9 a bottle. Very nice selection here: Chimay (red, white, and blue), Stone (Arrogant Bastard, IPA), Bellhaven, numerous DFH (both 60- and 90-minute, which I enjoyed immensely), Harpoon, Omegang, Sam Adas, Unibroue (4 or 5, actually), Victory, even Lindemans.
Quick and efficient service. No knowledge of beer. Food was good. We didn't try the dinner menu, opting instead for more "bar"-ish food. The bull dip at $6.99 was a healthy 'tizer, the wife's London Broil steak salad was kick-ass (I loves me a good flank steak), and my Buffalo Chicken cheese steak had enough fire to mesh nicely with my 90-minute IPA. All told, we were out of there for under $30. That's not too bad.
Surely worth the visit if passing through. A hefty enough beer selection to appeal to most everyone. Decent food. Eye candy as well. Right on the way home from work is an added bonus. I'll visit again.
