Appearance: Påsk Alt pours an intensely opaque (like a dunkelweisse), grimy, dirt brown-to-copper along with a small crown consisting of big bubbles, it disintegrates quite quickly and is completely gone in about 1½ minutes, lacing appears sporadicly.
Smell: Sour notes of orange peel and peach, dry and burnt malt sensations are clearly evident along with some fudge.
Taste: Burnt malt is the primary taste sensation here, molasses, a piquant sourness strikes the tongue but disappears pretty quickly, small, small notes of cumin and a pretty distinctive wormwood-dryness transformed into some penicillin-like notes which lingers on in the aftertaste, which - according to me - is a downside to a otherwise pleasant experience.
Mouthfeel: Full, rather flat due to the low amount of carbonation (duh-uh!) but for a beer this dark it's pretty appropriate (compared to, say, a pilsner, euro lager and such...). The body's a size S.
Drinkability: Fairly complicated beer with an aftertaste which could be conceived as unpleasant by some. It goes along pretty good with reindeer stew, almond potatoes, fried chanterelles and lingonberry jam.

Initial comment: According to the brewery, this is a Doppel Sticke, a stronger version of the German Altbier.
A: Very dark ruby with brown hues. Big beige dense head that looks rather creamy. Good head retention and a decent amount of lacings.
S: Big malty flavor. Caramel, chocolate, earth, faint hop aromas, burnt coffee. There is also a kind of strange burnt aroma, like charred wood, that actually seems out of place. At first, the smell seems interesting in a good way, but after a while it gets too much.
T: Plenty of roasted and burnt flavors - toast and charred wood. Smoke. Resin, grassy hop flavors, dried fruits. Light salty flavors. Actually, there is not much going on here until the finish. The finish is quite big but unfortunately, it's slightly raw and unbalanced. A rather prominent and long bitterness blends with sharp spices, bark, some hop resins and roasted malts. Some alcohol.
M: Medium body, but fuller than expected. At first, when the beer gets in the mouth, it feels rather calm, but then a very lively - almost aggressive - and ample carbonation kicks in.
D: There is something I don't really get about this beer. Some aromas and flavors seem out of place, and it seems to be pulling in different directions. It seems willful and stubborn in a not really positive sense. Also, the aromas and smell of burnt wood is really not that good. However, it does contain a decent amount of flavors and it shows some complexity.

Small beige head, cloudy body that is murky brown. Smell is distinctly smokey, nutty it also smells of cheese and has a faint hint of honey. Flavour is full of smoke sausages and also full of malts. It has a distinct bitterness that lingers and it has a large body. The liquid is very sticky with small bubbles. The beer is both interesting but also demanding.

Sigtuna is a brewery which hasn't impressed me very much, until now. Altbier is a really underestimated type of beer which is easily forgotten among other types. But this one is pure genius! Not the best beer in the world, but shit, I'd love to have a bottle of this in my fridge every day.
The beer pours a really dark amber color with a nice biege head. The bottle is quite mysterious and says "Påsk Alt - Inget för kycklingar" which means "Easter Altbier - Nothing for chickens". Almost BrewDog-style. I like.
Aroma holds lots of dark bread, hops and almost burnt notes of malts. Really nice, just like an altbier should. Some nice notes of raisins aswell.
Taste is awesome! Lots of hops, you can tell that they've used this "Hop bursting"-method. Really nice and complex bacground of hops. But there are also notes of burnt sugar and caramel. It also have this "aged"-feeling that a Altbier should have.
One of the greatest suprises this year. Great beer! The 7,5% ABV isn't noticable at all.

500 ml bottle, 2009 vintage, kindly procured from Systembolaget by OleR, thanks! ABV is 7.5%. Copper to mahogany coloured beer, huge beige head. Nice aroma of burnt caramel, earth and bakery. The flavour is distinctly malty with loads of caramel, baked goods and chocolate, but is not too sweet. Distinct hoppy bitterness and burnt toast in the finish. Bitter aftertaste. Unusual and earthy character, not necessarily "easy drinking", but certainly one to savour.

The colour is dark red-brown; the liquid is clear. The finger thick head slowly sinks down to a thick deep beige lid leaving lots of lacing.
The luxurious smell is malty with lots of roasted notes, chocolate sauce, some sour hints. Lots of hops, but not much bitterness. Dried fruits... Roasted and dry flavours... Some coffee, cream and leaven. Mmm... There are plenty of hops here.
The first thing that hits the taste buds is a grand bitterness, but it is a European bitterness without the citric/pine flavours of America. The flavours are clean and strong. Lots of roasted malt and even more noble hops, the taste is very dry. The aftertaste is fresh and bitter with notes of roasted meat, dark bread and nuts. The long finish is lightly roasted, malty and a bit salt.
The carbonation is medium to light, the soft bubbles are small. The liquid is smooth, but not heavy.
This is one great beer: Lots of unusual and well managed flavours without a trace of alcohol or slight flavours. Maybe not a beer for the traditional Swedish Easter smorgasbord, but a hell of a digestive that reminds a lot of an English old ale.
