From a sampler: This is a beer that I wish I had brought home in a growler. It is also one available in bottles. Pours almost black with a thick tan head an good lacing. The aroma is a pleasant blend of roasted coffee, malt, and chocolate. Very rich and satisfying with a strong cocoa/coffee flavor. Malt, caramel and hops are all in there for good measure too. The finish is long and roasty. This is easily the best beer from the brewpub as far as I am concerned.

1/2 gallon growler.

Impenetrable black color with reddish tints around the edges. Creamy, thick tan head with excellent retention and lacing qualities.

Roasted oat malt, chocolate, caramel and toffee linger aromatically.

Minute notes of coffee and chocolate accentuate the appropriately roasted character of this beer. Further notes of minimally bitter finishing hops and a nice lingering acidity appear on the long finish.

Full-bodied, rich, thick and plentiful. So smooth.

Super drinkable. A very pleasant surprise from a brewery by which I've been pleased, but far from amazed. This stuff ends all doubts. Its best beer and a new favorite.

Just got home with a growler... I was dissapointed that they were out of their cask conditioned special bittter, until I poured this one into a glass... I could tell this was something special the moment I layed eyes on it. Dark as night... not a single ray of light passes through this baby. Has a beige head that reamins at about 1/2 inch, and leaves some lace behind. Aroma is full of roasted malt... coffee and chocolate, with a touch of grassy hops. Flavor is nearly perfect... chocolate, a slight sweetness lent by the oatmeal, and some grassy notes, finishing with quite a bit of coffee... each flavor held in perfect balance. Mouthfeel is full and creamy... oh so smooth! This rivals some of the best oatmeal stouts I've had, and is by far the best brew I've had from Barley Island. Now that I know about this gem, I'm going to be going there more often.
