I spent much of my undergraduate career at the Market Cross Pub located in downtown Carlisle, PA. The Pub features typical pub food and the largest beer selection in the area.

There are about a dozen taps and they usually reserved for pretty basic brews (Yuengling, Guinness, Harp). There is usually one beer on cask as well. Market Cross also brews a few of their own house brewed beers on tap.

The strength of the Market Cross's beer selection is their extensive bottle list which features around 170 different selections. The beer menus is broken down in sections. The international section features beers from Argentina to Vietnam and many stops in between (with Belgium, the UK, and Germany comprimising the largest group). The Pub also features many Pennsylvania breweries (Sly Fox, Troegs, Victory, Weyerbacher and the nearby Appalachian Brewing Company). The rest of the beer menu isn't going to blow anyone away (Bell's, Dogfish Head, Stone, Ommegang, etc.) but it is definitely the best selection in town.

The food is standard but good. Sandwiches and pub favorites such as shephard's pie and fish and chips dominate the menu.

Service is also friendly, but often hurried particulary during big weekend at the nearby college.

All in all, the Market Cross pub is a solid beer lovers destination in central Pennsylvania. I stop in for a meal and a pint every time through Carlisle. You should too. (1,409 characters)

Full disclosure, this pub is in my hometown. But I'm greatful this jem is here. Laid back atmosphere, about twenty rotating beers on tap, including decent home made brews, plus huge bottle selection from all over the world. Annual round the world booklet. I would recommend for drinks or casual dinner. Traditional pub food, my favorite is Duke of Devonshire (sliced turkey with brie on french baguette). Several TVs with sports, live music, trivia night, there is always something going on. Can get crowded at times. Check out this Carlisle landmark. (561 characters)

Was at the classic car show over the weekend and decided to eat lunch at this place, it was very good and had a huge list of great beers to choose from, my chicken cheese steak and fries was delicious! (202 characters)

Went here for a belated birthday late lunch/early dinner with the family and a good friend. They have a huge selection of beers on tap, ciders, quite a few of their own and a rotating cask beer every month. I had their Dublin Your Luck Irish Dry Stout on cask which was very well made.
There was only one waitress on duty and she was pretty busy.
The food was good and once we placed our orders it didn't take too long for it to come out. My friend and I wanted to hang out at the bar and have a few more of the brewpubs own beers, but time did not allow for that.
Typical bar food and decent prices; a lot of sandwiches and a fairly large entree menu as well.
Definitely going back when we have more time. Carlisle is also a great town to walk around and check out the stores and shops. (788 characters)

Located on the main drag down the middle of Carlisle. Pretty easy to find and on-street parking was plentiful on our Friday night visit.

Multi-room setup with decent sized bar area. Disappointed in the number of house beers (2), but had quite a few guest taps going.

Food was a little lower in quality than anticipated. Good soup, but my wife's salad was disappointing. In all fairness, though, probably not the place to worry about a salad. Food came out quick and was appropriate for the price.

Service was attentive and cheerful. Can't ask for too much more.

Overall, glad we stopped and would probably go again if in the area. (635 characters)

Great place to grab a bite and brew. Really good bottle list. They used to have pint night every other tuesday where you bought the pint and kept the glass. If you plan on visiting more than once start a beer passport. You have to drink a set amount of beers usually around 100 over the course of the year. They break up their whole bottle list by country and you try to drink one per country. Great place to try a bunch of different stuff. The food was always really good normal pub fare. The crab dip is to die for! The prices always seem very reasonable. I would suggest this place to anyone traveling through the area. (622 characters)

This a nice spot for Carlisle. You walk in and it is dark with lots old world style charm. Lots dark wood and long bar on the right. It is kinda tight inside. They brew some of there own beer which is cool and decent. The bottles list is very good. They have a large variety and showcase lots of pa beers . I did not try any food, so I can not comment on that. One thing I did not like was the cramped factor. This came into play when folks came in for sixers. All of the bottles are stored up front and behind the bar. There is a large window right by the bottles. I would hate to see all those nice bottles be sun burned. Overall cool place (642 characters)
