Had on Tap at the actual brewery in Cologne

This beer poured a nice light golden amber with a simply small white head. The smells was of biscuity malts and breadlike aroma with a slight hop spice. The taste was very refreshing, perfectly balanced with the nice crisp malts dominating the flavor. A slight fruit and hop bitterness is barely noticeable but compliments the style perfectly. This beer had a nice light body and went down easy.. (except for the one my travel mate actually knocked down onto the floor). Overall a must try Kolsch for all fans out there..

Quite the find for under $4

Perfect pour. Light golden, very clear. Nice fluffy white head of about 2 fingers; lingered for half the glass. Timid swirl brought it back

Aroma has a gentle undertone of malt and sweetness, white grape. Consistent front of grassy hops and slight spice

Clean flavor. The white grape is noticeable at the end, but not dominant. Good combo of hop zip and carbonation. This is a porch pounding beer and would go quite well with grilled white meats and salads

Had this beer on tap at the brewhouse in Koln. Served cool in traditional strage glass.

A-bright white cap head and a light gold body.

S-light floral aroma, some sweet grain smell as well.

T-sweet, some floral hop, hard candy and a cereal grain finish.

M-light

D-great representation of the style. Very enjoyable and highly drinkable. I would drink this beer again.

I enjoyed this from the brown bottle in a mug chilled.

The color is golden straw with very good clarity and thick white cream of two fingers high w/ very fine bead visibly carbonated with smooth creamy froth for head and good retention as lace sticks well. The smell is fruity but light with subtle pear-likes sweet fragrant yeast with mild aroma of malt with mineral quality accenting. The feel has slight yeast up front with malt sweetness and moderately high carbonation with smooth creamy body, mild bitterness and semi-dry finish.

The taste is malt oriented with mild entry and gentle hops which are herbal with not overly bitter taste. The yeast adds fruitiness with subtle hint of alcohol in the background and pilsner malt taste throughout which is refined and subtle but hops have a toned down effect. This is a great kolsch -might be one of the best I have had it is a treat to sip and savor I would have got more if I could I love the subtlety and drinkability.

A gentle pour of Früh Kölsch yields fills the glass with a crystal-clear, golden amber liquid. From with the liquid emerges a craggy, bone-white foam. The foam quickly disappears, revealing a flurry of small explosions on the surface. The bubbles in this brew seem to be on steroids. When I inspect the carbonation from the side, it seems as if my glass is acting as a magnifying glass. I expect a sharp mouthfeel.

The nose is much more complex than I expect from a Kölsch. Sweet, lightly toasted barley malt is present, but does not obscure the beer's gentle grassy and floral aromas. When I close my eyes and focus my olfactory receptors, I pick up some mild notes of sour apple.

I've never tasted such a sophisticated Kölsch. Up front is a nice balance between the sweet malt and the floral and herbal hoppy flavors. The latter yield the palate quickly to subtle flavors of sour apple with a very faint hint of cured lemon rind. The back end is fantastic: The well-balanced bitterness brings out the cured lemon notes just a bit more. Moreover, the understated malt, sour yeast, and light, floral hops are in just the right balance to suggest dry chardonnay, whose taste slowly develops on the palate as the hang lingers.

The mouthfeel isn't anything like I had imagined. A gentle swirl around the tongue tosses up a slightly thin but gentle foam; nothing harsh here. A perfect complement to the beer's dry, crisp, tart flavor profile.

I do believe I've found my favorite Kölsch. A delight.

Crystal clear golden color with a nice 1 finger bright white head which dies rather quickly. Soft fruitiness with a sweet graininess.

Sweet graininess, light body and light effervescence. Toasted grain, faint butteriness, tart fruit flavors, bit of apple, sweet grain husk, Faint fruity hoppy bitterness to balance. Pretty good, very clean with good flavors and goes down like water.

Bottle poured into a glass beer boot

Clear, yellow with strands of carbonation leading to a one finger foam cap that quickly subides. Few lacings

Grassy, malt, bread and grains with a whisper if lemon aroma.

Clean, crisp, refreshing malts and no bitter aftertaste. A light mouthfeel.perfect beer for a hot summer day. Love this style of beer. Worthy of repeating and stocking in the fridge.

Headed up to Koln this week, last Kolsch I had was Coast's 32/50, but that was quite a while ago, and can't really remember the profile.
Pours A light lemony golden malt color, light, thin head actively bubbling and dissipates quickly, leaving a lovely little ring of head. Good carbonation, light bubble streams, looks really nice., but not really much to look at.
Aromas is strangely and deliciously complex. Light bread notes, followed by a bouquet of floral notes. Fruit-apple, plum, under ripe pear, lemony acidity, sour fermented notes, clean, crisp lightly subdued hops on the finish. Even a bit of grape-like note in their as well. Smells utterly drinkable.
Flavor is really intriguingly light, yet complex. Upfront I find the grape, plum, apple notes, mid-sip the lemon comes into play. Bitterness, carbonation balance and perfect the light mouth feel. The fruit gives way to light bready malt and delicate hops. Whereas most beers here in Munich finish with a mineral finish due to the high mineral content of the water, this one finishes soft, clean and lively. Not to make too much of a simple thing, but it's nutty, with a light toasted nut character, it's fruity, sweet yet citrus punch, and ends with a great cleansing carbonation and an intruging spicy character akin to fresh cracked black pepper.
This is one of the highest rated of the Kolsch, but not the highest so I am going to hold back on the perfection rating until more samples are consumed.
What a great discovery, I would pair this head to head with young chardonnay in a wine vs beer, and pair it with lighter food fair, jumbo prawns with a light citrus sac and a peppery kick of arugula would match with beautifully. I really enjoyed my Kolsch, and look foward to more next week and ironically enough the top rated on this website are all American breweries..

I had the pleasure of going to Fruh Am Dom and trying their Kolsch.

A: Yellow with thin head that dissapates quickly.

S: Scents of fruit and sweetness.

T: Malty with hoppiness

M: Watery some, but the good carbonation keeps it in check. It is light and crisp.

D: Good drinkability because of its crisp and light nature as well as hints of sweetness.

An excellent kölsch beer for sure. Thanks to Eva for bringing this back from Germany for me. This is a super pale golden colour with a fizzy white head. Just like a true kölsch should be. The smell was simple, and consisted of berries, fruity hops, and light bready malts. The taste was immensely satisfying with hops and malts having some great interplay. The mouthfeel is light and thirst quenching and the drinkability is exceptional!

Poured from the bottle into a Gaffel stange glass. Really excited to be trying another German true Kolsch and suddenly finding this in my area.

Lots of head on the pour, but it settles to a nice frothy white, the pinhead bubbles are just so even throughout, rocking and just coating with lace at times. Head is a classic super crystal golden lemon yellow, with a mix of different sized carbonation, some is very tiny, others are cola sized. Also some rise very slowly others rise incredibly fast, a mish mash of a lifting science experiment. An absolutely lovely beer.

Nose is classic. Dry malts and sweet bakery bread sense. Slight honey. Hints at mud and grass with some density. Solid. Thick. Inviting.

Taste is dense as well. Thick big malt backbone that just rips. Coating. Lush. Hints at honey sweetness coming with some lip coating feel. Big doughy bread aftertaste with a sense of crisp lager like finish (yes I know... it's an ale...). Mouthfeel is solid, fairly straightforward with minimal carbonation play on the palate.

Overall a real great simple drinking Kolsch, the ultimate Kolsch quest continues in earnest. I would love to try this side by side with Reissdorf, but I could have this VERY often!
