22oz bottle poured into a large mug

Pours dark amber, slightly cloudy, with a respectable tan head. Medium carbonation is apparent. Smell is syrupy and hoppy.

Taste is crisply hoppy with a nice strong malty background, pretty well balanced. A little straw flavor.

Mouthfeel is thick and slightly sticky.

Overall, this is a good solid beer. It's not spectacular, but good.

Bottle code MFG 12022012. Hated 22oz bottle. Bottle was a gusher. Poured a cloudy, almost opaque, orange with 1/2 inch of off-white head that had low retention and lots of lacing.

The aroma had a slight funk that's perhaps from the yeast, and perhaps from the year in the bottle. Otherwise, it had the aroma of a typical example of the style, medium malts and lots of faded hops. Same story on the tongue, perhaps a good beer once, now it's merely OK.

The body was nicely full and smooth, with a dry finish. Drinkability was good, and I suspect would be better fresh. Overall, a solid beer that I hope to try again fresher.

On tap. Pours dark amber with white head. Aroma is of ripe apples, caramel malt and hints of hops. Body is medium and tangy. Citrusy, herbal hops dominate the palate with caramel malt and ripe fruit provide some balance. Long finish is greapfruity. Very nice IPA.

Into a pint glass:

A: hazy orange/brown colored body with a super clingy lacing left in rings, slightly foamy

S: sweet malt overpowering some bitter hops, citrusy, slightly toasty

T: mainly sweet through the malt, bitter hops try to come through but really don't showcase much character, sweet citrus aftertaste, dry sticky finish

M: medium, fairly sessionable, carbonation is actually very smooth for an EIPA (surprising), borderline watery but mainly good for me

O: seems just another EIPA, nothing bad but not really standout, maybe have again depending what else was served

A: poured brownish orange in color with yellow highlights and a half finger of head that left a little lacing sticking to the glass.

S: mostly sweetness from the malts was what I detected with very little hop character, a little toasty, hints of citrus and grians.

T: lots of grain flavor upfront on the palate alongside plenty of malty sweetness, very little citrus a little bready toasty and thats pretty much it; very bland.

M: the brew was medium in body with fair amount of carbonation which had a sweet, very mild hoppy and citrusy with a slightly crisp finish.

O: really not much to this beer all around, not really my style of IPA. I think I'll stick to the west coast hop bombs.

Pours a dark copper amber. One finger fine light tan head with good retention and lacing. Aroma is dominated by sweet and biscuit matl, faint hops and citrus, light herbal spicing. Flavor follows aroma, nice rich sweet biscuit and light toasted malt, well integrated with mild noble hops, light caramel, slightly earthy. Finishes with lightly hopped malt. Hops are not herbal, but seem to be in style with a British ales. Medium bodied, but a luxuriant creamy mouth feel that is nicely done. I've been drinking a lot of NW IPAs and this does not seem to have the same intense herbal hop qualities, but is suitably hopped for an English IPA. Enjoyable.

22oz bomber
A) Pours with a big head that slowly settles. Big bubble lacing on the drink down. Amber colored body with some haze.
S) Blast of Cascade hops. Some citrus notes.
T) Hop bitterness throughout, but a pleasant malt sweetness shines through. Subtle caramel and roasted flavors. Earthy tones. A lingering hop bite in the aftertaste.
M) Crisp. Fizzy. Just on the lighter side of medium bodied. Dry and tannic in the finish.
O) A decent English IPA. I'd drink another one.

Dark, brownish gold with a light auburn head leaving decent lace.

Smell is malty, sweet, some citrus, orange marmalade.

Taste is similar, a maltier pale with the strong sweet orange hop flavors without being to bitter or pungent. Clearly in line with the style, but not as boring as the 'traditional' ones can be (e.g. non american made English style IPAs). There's some bubblegum as well.

Mouthfeel is slippery and light.

Drinkability is good, tasty for sure. I can see my self drinking enough of these to have to wait for morning...

A: Nice dark gold color, good retention good lacing, small bubbles. Looks appetizing.

S: Lots of northwest hops, a nice sweet malt, smells like a good IPA.

T: A little metallic, malt is perfectly balanced. Hops are super strong and up front and personal. Just a hint of burnt toast at the end, which gives it a nice hoppy finish. Wonderful!

M: Pretty dry, medium bodied, a little thick, a little overcarbonated, but very clean.

D: Goes down great, one of the most drinkable IPAs I've had in quite a while.

We've got a deep golden hued beer here with a mute amber undertone, teeny lacy head to it.

Smells a dialed down nostalgia of root beer barrels, a tiny nod of allspice, apple and hop resin.

Flavor grows upon itself. At first sip it was underwhelming but intrigue grows as I get senses of caramel, fig, noble hop characteristics that lean pilsneresque, and some acridity.

Mouthfeel is a little livelier than what I look for in an English, but it gooses up the overtones to make them such. Makes it seem Americanized as such, which isn't a bad thing.

Well I can't call this my favorite AK made IPA, but I won't complain about having one again.

22 fl oz bottle into a goblet. Bottle (purchased from La Bodega) appears to have a freshness date on the bottom right corner of the label: 06202011 (most likely a brewed/bottled on date). Pours a hazy burnt orange/amber with about 3 fingers of white foam on the head that simmers down to about one. Respectable lacing on the glass so far. Looks to be nicely carbonated.

Smell consists of some pine resin, citrus, and some floral aromas from the hops. I can also detect some malt aromas, such as caramel. In other words, smells like a good IPA should.

Taste is that of an extremely fresh, well-balanced IPA. The benefits of going with the local product! Similar to the nose, I get a lot of pine. There is some citrus as well-- I get the bitterness of some grapefruit, but to a lesser extent. The pine flavors are the dominant ones. The hops also impart some spiciness to this IPA. Very pleasant bitterness with a nice amount of malt here as well to balance things out. I detect a trace of caramel to go along with some biscuit flavors from the malt.

Mouthfeel is enjoyable--crisp and bitter with a little slickness from the hop oils. Overall a nice, fresh, local IPA. I look forward to enjoying this IPA many more times. Has the makings of a reliable, go-to IPA.
