The beer is a hybrid of two classic stout styles; oatmeal stout and sweet or "milk" stouts. Putting the two ideas together, Kenai River has produced a stout that to look at is absolutely opaque, with a tan head. The aroma speaks strongly of roasted grains, as you would expect from a stout, while on the tongue the beer has tremendous body. There is a decided silkiness on the palate from the oats, combined with a sweetness from the lactose and roasted flavors from the grains. Hops are there strictly for balance, with no noticeable presence. An unusual but excellent beer, and one which I think might prove especially excellent to cook with, given its sweetness and low bitterness. I could see this beer making a fabulous steak and ale pie, or being used to de-glaze a pan to make a lovely sauce.

served on-tap in a shaker pint glass at the Resurrection Road House in Seward, AK. Menu lists it as an "Oatmeal Milk Stout".

appears opaque black in color, but no head. aroma is of roasted malt. taste is as expected, with some sweetness from the oats, and that lactose flavor standard of milk stouts. unfortunately, I think the body is a bit thin for the style.

overall, definitely the right flavors for being a "breakfast beer". definitely would improve if a thicker body and smoother mouthfeel. perhaps a good candidate for serving on nitro-tap?

A- Pitch black, with a head that seems a little too thin and lacy for a beer that is as viscous as this.

S- obviously bready and biscuty, but also with hints of vanilla and rich cream, lingering brown sugar as well.

T-Thick, but not very chewy, not as heavy as the viscosity would indicate, malty and bready without a strong bitterness from the oatmeal, no bitterness at all, lingering flavor of rich cream to round it out.

M-Smooth and thick, lingers along the throat.

O-My Favorite Beer From the Kenai River Lineup, A very smooth version of the oatmeal stout that comes with the addition of lactose to the batch, truly a perfect breakfast beer, that also goes well with a chocolate desert after a meal

32oz growler from the growler bar at Brown Jug Warehouse in Anchorage. Pours ink black with minimal head. Small amounts of lacing here and there on the glass.

Smell is sweet and milky with some chocolate and coffee notes.

Taste is plenty of roasted malts, milk, some coffee, and some light notes of milk and dark chocolates.

Mouthfeel is quite smooth with minimal carbonation. The beer has some substance to it from the oats, but a little thinner than expected.

Overall, a nice sweet/oatmeal stout. I took the name to heart and tried this one with breakfast. A nice way to start the morning. I don't know the ABV, but it was low enough to allow for a productive morning.
