I've been there a few weeks ago, just what I expected: a great beer atmosphere, on the Belgian Style, on tap about 15 beers (from Belgium, Norway, Spain, Denmark and UK). The beers list is big, really big, they told us that they have more than 500 beers. Lots of gueze and lambik, Chimay vintage (several years from 2001 till now), the service is decent, fast, very kind. If you ask they will show you their store place, bigger than the bar, all full of beer. It's worth a visit. Some rare beers that you only can find here.

Great place near Barcelona, I've been in many beerplaces around the world but I'm certainly happy that this one is close to my home. Ambience is nice, looks like an belgian abbey, great atmosphere, 15 beers on tap. The beer menu is very extensive, about 500 beers, lots of lambic and gueze, several vintage beers, such as Chimay Grand Reserve 2001, Fullers Vintage, Stille Nacht 2007, special editions,... There is a great belgian cheese menu, chheses from Chimay, Orval, Watou,...and the one that I recommend: the Hervé cheese, whaw! A perfect blend between the cheese and beer. The owner and the staf are very helpfull, and if they have a minut they come to talk and share a beer with you. Highly recommended place.

The best beer place near Barcelona! Held by a great guy! 15 beers on tap, NUMEROUS beers in bottles and many MANY aged beers. Not to be missed!!! Exceptional selection of aged sour beers and a few exclusivities! The food is pretty basic pub food, but it's good and, let's face it, i wasn't there for the grub!

Located in Mataró, 20 minuts by train from Barcelona, and then 15 min. walking. One of the most important beers bars in Spain, their selection is really big, beers from US, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Holland, Italy, Spain and the most craft beers of Belgium. Their draft beers are changing each time, Only the Chimay and the Pils are the fix ones.
Food: a selection of belgian cheeses (Chimay Vieux, Hervé, Patachouffe, Orval, ...) and sandwiches , burgers, nachos (with guacamole and hot cheese), some belgian chocolate.
Ambiance and atmosphere is nice, nice people to talk with and good service.
Really clean bar.
The beer menu is a book, about 500 beers there.

An amazing beer bar with an outstanding selection and excellent atmosphere in a beautiful town.

They have lots of hard to find/obscure Belgian beers in bottles such as De Struise, Westvleteran, some rare lambics and a load more with several unique Belgian beers on tap.

They also have an excellent selection of Catalan micros, vintage ales (Thomas Hardy's back into the early 90's), a good US micro selection and more!

They also have an excellent cheese menu that works perfectly with the beers.

The best beer bar in Catalunya and possibly even Spain. A must visit!

The Drunk Monk is basically a belgian beer bar in the heart of Costa Brava-Spain, few minutes far from Barca. Visited during my last trip in Barca, my impressions were good, aside from the general atmosphere that didn't impress me. I enjoyed a pair of very good belgian beers on bottle. Unfortunately the tap selection is not as vast as the bottle menu. The vastest part of the menu is for trappist beers and very strong belgian ale. The lambic selection is also good. Some interesting vintage beers available.

The 'Drunk Monk' is a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the effort. If you are staying in Barcelona, as I was, take the train up. Its an opportunity to see the seaside as the train travels along the beaches, north of the city. Mataro itself is a nice, upscale beachside community.
The Drunk Monk is an outstanding Belgian Beer Bar, complete with a real Belgian Beer Bar owner (Sven). Sven truly knows his business and stocks over 100 Belgian Beers, as well as exceptional beers from America, Germany, Great Britain, etc...
We sought out the Drunk Monk both for the beer and the adventure of the trip along the coast. We did not expect the truly exceptional courtesy extended to us. Sven speaks good english and sat chatting with us for several hours, all the while opening up special reserve and rare beers. We left satiated (uh-huh) complete with souvenirs.
The Drunk Monk is an exceptional beer bar. If you enjoy truly great beer, a visit is a must.

This is one of my favorite bars in the world. For me it's a local bar, so I know everyone and they know me. Sven and his (attractive young female) staff know about the beers they're selling and how to serve them. His bottle selection is currently around 110 different beers, all Belgian (except for a local brand). You'll see all the trappists and well known commercial beers but also hard to find beers (at least here in the Barcelona area) like De Graal, Cantillon, Livinus, Urthel and many others. If you live in the US you probably won't find anything you've never seen before..but if you come to the Barcelona area this is THE BAR to check out. Recently redecorated in wood, it's comfortable and inviting. It's about 30 minutes by car from Barcelona and a perfect stop after a long day on the beach. The are also 6 beers on tap - Scottish Newcastle stuff and Kwak. The food is standard bar food. If you order a burger ask Sven to make it a special and you'll get something that is memorable (cheese, onions, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes and he actually has hot sauce). They also make a mean cocktail.

Warning...People come here to PARTY pretty much every night, so don't be surprised if you find yourself talking with Sven over a beer about your favorite beers at 3am (if the bar's open, he's there). Open everyday except Sunday from 6pm until 2:30 or 3...or 4. English spoken. Sports events on TV. No live music. Patio open in warm weather.

P.S. It's a little hard to find. If you look at the map link, it's in a tall apartment building just off the traffic circle but it's on the park side of the building.
