Smells weakly of old banana. The taste is way sour, and tart. It's like bad candy. Mouthfeel takes a big hit on account of the tartness. At least I can say the appearance was OK: slight haze with decent head.

Bad bottle? Others didn't seem to have such problems with this beer. The Mojo is not workin'.

"Got my mojo workin', but it just won't work on you
I wanna love you so bad 'til I don't know what to do"

--Muddy Waters

Dusky orange-bronze on the coaster, flawless dark cherry with juicy orange edges when backlit. The thick, dense, sticky cap looks great atop the beer. Golden caramel in color, it's a tremendous match for the multi-hued liquid. It displays a sculpted look as it falls, but doesn't leave as much lace as I had hoped for.

The nose is wonderful for a strong ale and is as complex as they come. It even smells a little like a baby barleywine. Let's see... there's a brown sugar and dark butterscotch base, upon which sit ripe, juicy black cherries and black raspberries soaked in spiced dark rum.

The flavor, although very good as well, doesn't quite reach the high rent district of the aroma. With a bigger, thicker, more chewy mouthfeel, it just might have. It's still baby barleywine-like, but is a little underweight rather than being fat and sassy.

The flavor profile reminds me of a Scotch ale in some respects, with flavor contributions from carob, light molasses, toffee and even sour peat. In fact, the sourness is a tad overdone. If halved it would be a more welcome mouth guest. Cherries and assorted berries are still present. The mouthfeel coalesces with warming, but it's still a notch or two short of ideal.

Mojo Ale is another good one from Siletz. These guys consistently brew better than average beer, and some of their offerings are exceptional. If they would tweak the recipe just a tad, this one would be something to behold. I got my Mojo workin' already and I still have a third of the bomber to go.

on tap at Redbone's

A broody hazy penumbra of dark caramel hangs over a red-orange glow like a smoke over a low fire. Served with a mimimal head that is a persistant crema of light caramel that never quite goes away.

Faint clean scent

The malty base swiftly gives way to a spicy resin that lingers so long you can get lost in its subtle piney suggestions of cinnamon and nutmeg. Gentle fine carbonation, wonderful in the mouth.

Mmmm

On tap at Red Bones. It poured into a shaker glass a deep ruby brown color with a decent tan head and a sheet of lace. Good mix of malt and hops on the nose. Slight spice character followed later as I studied the beer. The taste has a fruity character. Apple or pear with mild roast malt. More spice on the finish of the flavor. Medium mouth feel. This is a great complement to the BBQ I'm having.

The beer after its escaping the 22-ounce brown bottle sets in the glass a deep mahogany with a mountainous frothy light tan head, and the left over lace a thick and sticky sheet that clings mightily to the glass. Nose has a nice crisp hop spiciness, sweet malt also present, perfume like tones, a sweet treat for the nose, start has a nice grain profile, sweet and the top middling in feel to the palate. Finish is stern in its acidity with the hop pronounced in their spicy bite, the aftertaste continues the spicy almost perfume like flavor, a good beer by any standards, interesting and a pleasurable quaff.

Purchased in the 22 oz sceen printed bomber.
In appearance this is a dark brown beer, with ruby accents..with a bubbly tan head.
the aroma is mainlly malty almost in a doppelbock way.
This has a fairly complex variety of tastessweet to start, then a surprising "fizzy" sourness on the sides of the tongue..followed by a long and pleasant bitterness. Some accents of bitter camp coffee come to mind.
Very good and exciting in the mouth..long finish.
A nice tasty ale from Siletz..a good brewery.

The Siletz Roadhouse menu lists this as “a robust strong ale.” Actually, Mojo Ale began as a winter seasonal until popular demand saw it evolve into a year-round offering – a practice that is confusing but not unwelcome. It’s not a strong ale or old ale in the classic sense, but a hearty brew with a complex flavor. Seven malts and four hops achieve an intricate composition that cause this beer to be hard to define – yet easy to drink.

I took a sip of this beer – just a sip – and found myself involuntarily uttering, “hmm…wow…!” The flavor has a cinnamon crispness to it, yet the aroma is yeasty and light. Mojo is also the color of cinnamon stick with a slight blush of crimson. The beer I was poured had a modest showing of lace and an indifferent head, suggesting a somewhat tired tap. Still, this is a grand beer and lived up to its taunt of being “just the thing to get your mojo workin’.”

Glowing scarlet red. Thin tight and creamy beige/yellow head. Retention is solid. The lace is droopy and sporadic. Nice aroma. Sweet caramel, rum cake, molasses, bread pudding...The flavors are pretty nice, but not quite as pronounced as I'd like. A nice juicy NW hop bitterness compliments the sweet maltiness in good way. The mouthfeel is just a tad too carbonated. And the body seems fitting at about medium-full. A lingering spiciness attributed to alcohol is a nice touch.

Hey ZAP! Thanks for the MOJO, MOFO.

Seems a little thin for an old ale...definitely lives up to the west coast hop reputation...pours a deep orange with a 1/2 inch tan head....Nose includes some breadness and a spicy hop profile..

Taste leans a little heavier on the hops side...more of a piney flavor on the finish....malt load is bready...seems to be some light spicing (cinamin?)..

Decent enough beer but lacking in depth and character to be considered special..pretty tasty and I will enjoy the rest of this bomber that is for sure...

Dark reddish amber color. Medium head. Aroma is malty, fruity and a touch sweet. A medium bodied strong ale. Malts are nutty, fruity and sweet. Hops are piney and slightly bitter. Fairly large rich malt tastes in this beer. It’s a little harsh tasting, and I think there are some of those “I can’t identify Christmas Beer spices” in here as well. It’s a very easy drinking winter warmer. Sort of grows on you. Painted beer bottle. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and a touch dry. Aftertaste is bitter.

Sampled at the Siletz Road House and brewery in Oregon.

This is a very deep red ale with yet another tight off-white head that must be a Siletz trademark.

It has a light malty aroma, no hops are noticable. There's a little bite to this ale, but I was expecting more from a strong ale. Good mouthfeel, though.
