Pours a completely opaque, oily blackness with a nice, medium brown mocha-colored head. It smelled delightfully of chocolate and coffee and tasted even more delightfully of the same. A solid finish of a mix of the two flavors. It had a medium to heavy body and went down super super smooth. I couldn't taste the alcohol on this guy at all, which made it all the more drinkable. The hand-pumped cask just added to the deliciousness of the brew. Highly recommend!

Let's see here, there is a Russian Imperial Stout on cask, I wonder if I'll try it? Of course!

Pours black with a mocha that is mediocre in its retention. No lacing is a further strike to the appearance, but that could be blamed on the glassware. A nice sight nonetheless.

Smells strongly of the darkest espresso with a heavy chalk-like burnt tone (an obvious sign of Black Patent malt) covering a big and beautiful ring of fruity malt and fruity esters - these really hit the gong loud and clear, matching the dark roastiness. In time a broad tone of biscuity malt appears to help quell the fireworks with its soft but soul-clenching comfort. All put together, an enticing beer to say the least, expressing quite a range of characteristics for the style.

Taste begins, moreover leaps, out with a large smack of dark roast flavors, a true barrage of black malt flavors. Curious enough, after my palette adjusts to this burnt coffee onslaught an equally large note, or rather a full chord, of malt sweetness comes through bringing with it a backwash of plum undertones. Ends with a papery dry and earthy finish that pops along with a dark-roasted malt complexity and little in the way of tongue-burning pain. Where's the alcohol content? Extremely well hidden behind the quietude of smooth cask-conditioning.

Drinkable to say the least, this is not the most earth-shattering Imperial Stout I've had the good luck to enjoy, but no slouch. In fact, Arbor never lets down with its British beers. Low on hop character and high on malty girth, this is a true thumbs up.

Pours jet black with a thin tan head. Sweet aroma, with caramel and plum notes. Plum and winey flavors dominate the palate. A bit of smoke and tobacco come through, much like the St. Pats. Tough to drink though, as it starts tasting like bad plum wine mixed with tobacco juice after a while. Unfortunately, this seems to be another beer fighting contamination or oxidation problems. Perhaps something to be aware of if you visit Arbor Brewing.
