This old ale from Arbor Brewing pours an opaque medium brown, with a light lacy head that dissipates quickly. The first smells are of sweet fruits and burnt caramel. The mouth feel is about what you expect from an old ale, good body, lingers on the tongue, but not sticky. It finishes with a mild bitterness that balances out the flavor well. Jackhammer hints at being a big beer but doesn't come at a big price, which is why I have added this offering to my "regulars". When I don't feel like quaffing an $8 beer, this one does quite nicely. Well done Arbor Brewing.

Wasn't really expecting much from this ale but I was impressed. Very balanced flavors and the ABV was very well masked even when it warmed up a bit. If it was a touch sweeter I would get it again but I found nothing wrong with pounding this brew. Try it!

pours dark brown with minimal head. head dissipates quickly. Nose is kind of watery malt with dark fruit like raisin and fig. mouthfeel is a little watery and the dark fruits show their muscles half way through the sip. end palate is sweetness with caramel maybe? overall I was able to enjoy this beer. nothing I would get again. when I look for the dark fruit flavors this is not bad but if I was just pounding would be not so good.

12 oz brown bottle [not dated] poured into a tulip glass
Jackhammer Old Ale has a reddish dark brown body with a bubbly tan 1-finger head. The head held well leaving behind light/thin lacing. The nose was dominated by the malty sweetness of caramel and light brown sugar. The flavor was very similar to the smell with hints of buttery rum and a burnt toasted quality. Hops became present at the finish which balanced some of the sweetness. The mouth feel was smooth; a little chewy, lighter carbonation, and a pleasant alcohol warming.
Overall, a pleasant Old Ale that is a little lighter in flavor making it very drinkable.
