750 mL bottle from Corner brewpub in Ypsilanti, corked and caged. The bottle label describes this as Barrel aged Espresso Love with a dash of chocolate, chipotle, and vanilla.

The beer is dark brownish-black and opaque, with a thin tan head that has some staying power. The aroma includes nice classic RIS attributes, roasted malt and cocoa with a little fresh coffee. I didn't get the chipotle or vanilla from the aroma, but they tend to come through in the taste.

This beer was delicious, and it became more delicious with subsequent sips as the chipotle builds. Not a real strong pepper character, just enough low grade burn to confirm it's there. Otherwise a nice malty stout with plenty of roasted character and a good amount of chocolate. The coffee wasn't as strong as expected, given the base beer is an espresso stout, but it is present to some degree.

Medium body for a stout, adequate carbonation given barrel aging, another great bottle from Arbor. Recommended.

A - Black stout, not much head, no lacing. It looks like a stout, no light coming through on this.

S - A little wet wood, almost like some gin. The pepper smell not overpowering, some chocolate powder is there is well.

T - Chocolate with a little bit of heat. Nice roasty stout with cocoa powder. The roasted malts give a great backbone that is able to support the interesting strong presence of chilis and chocolate.

M - Smooth, full bodied, nice.

D - I liked this beer quite a bit. Chili stouts are hard to get right, and they did a good job on this.

2012 bottle release.

Appearance is a thin black with fizzy head settling into a nice brown film on top.

Smell is nice and sour-tart. A hint of chocolate and fresh roasted coffee as well.

Taste is a wave of Jolly Pumpkin-esque sour. It dries out very quick and leaves with a slight roasted bean essence. Knowing this is brewed with peppers, if you search for the heat it can be found in small doses.

Mouthfeel is quite thin, and a bit over carbonated for my taste but not bad.

If you like sour stouts, this is definitely worth a try. Not something I'd want often but it is very unique and tasty in its own way.

Bottled provided by jale. Thanks, Jim!

Pours a very dark brown color with a half-finger of mocha head and a few bubbles on top as it goes down. The nose brought a lot of roast character and coffee. Nothing too extreme, but it worked out quite well.

The flavor added in a few other components, with the chipotle becoming present here along with a touch of chocolate. The roast character is still prominent along with the coffee. The feel is where the chipotle really comes in, bringing a spicy note that I didn't really feel complemented the all flavors all that well in its extremity. Toning it down a bit would definitely help blend the flavors quite a bit more.

Bottle thanks to Jale...Pours an ugly dark brown, amber hints. Light tan head doesn't show me much...Aroma of chocolate, and a little chipotle heat, not much going on...The taste is just wrong, this is more of the aroma but not a good combination for some reason. I didn't drink much of this, nor did the 7 other of us as there was still half a bottle left at the end of the night.

Don't bother.
