Serving: On tap, 4 oz sampler at Corner Brewery (ABC's Ypsilanti brewpub)
Served: 17 June 2013
Appearance: A nice mahogany color- not quite red, but not quite brown either- a good in between. The head is white, but due to the sample size I really can't comment too much about whether it sticks around or not. It did hang around the edges of the sampler, for what it's worth.
Smell: Malty, caramel-y.
Taste: Kind of tastes like a doppelbock, and considering that it's a dubbel, I can't imagine that it's a stretch that I'm tasting this. Doppelbock isn't my favorite style due to the malt taste, but it is significantly better than the doppelbocks I have had. The caramel maltiness really shines in this beer, and it is quite delicious.
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, but it seems to exhaust its effervescence pretty quick. Afterwards, it seems to become somewhat watery, feeling. So drink this one quick!
Overall: A really great offering by ABC. They say it's part of a collaboration series with Troubadour, who made Mundus Vetus ("Old World"), a Belgian style tripel. For the record, "Mundus Novus" means "New World", so the naming of this series makes total sense. I would definitely get this beer again, but at 8.8%, probably not in a pint, especially if I was expecting to drink more than one of something.
Serving type: on-tap
