It had been a couple of years since I visited ABC, my favorite beer stop in Ann Arbor when I would come back to visit my friends at U of M during breaks from college out east. So, I was excited to get a chance to steal away to Ann Arbor and see if the Terminator, Jackhammer, Faricy, and Sacred Cow were still as good as I remember them being. They are.
Just off of Main Street, ABC specializes in English and German ales (not a lager in sight) with some very special Belgians available in 750 mL, corked bottles. Including the Belgians, there were probably sixteen available house brews. I opted for pints of the hand pumped Sacred Cow IPA--a true rival to Two Hearted's lupulin supremacy in the Michigan beer market, and a glass of their Bavarian Bliss Hefe Weizen. The latter was a true-to-style hit, with a wonderful body and crisp, balanced finish.
The menu is a hodgepodge of typical pub grub and is up to standard, but with so many more enticing eateries (Blimpy Burger and Zingerman's) in Ann Arbor, I never thought of ABC as a place to grab a meal anyway. After all, it's the quality brews that are in the spotlight here. The pub does a nice job of marketing craft brews in general beyond their own wares as well, featuring a beer tasting each month and offering full day deals on Monday for all of their beers.
Hopefully I'll get back to ABC when I visit Michigan again this Thanksgiving, because twelve months is too long to go without a stop here. Since I didn't go to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor doesn't remind me of my college years. It does, however, remind me about why I love craft beer.
This is one of the only must visit brewpubs in southeast Michigan.

Pretty decent place if you're in the area. Stopped by the other day for the first time in a long time. Decent sized place. Looks like a lot of brew pubs these days (although this one has been around longer than most in the area), lots of dark wood and darkly painted walls. Old pressed-tin style ceiling. Decent variety on tap, pours come in 16 or 20oz sizes. Crowlers, growlers, and six packs of their standards. Some $25 750 ml bottles of sours. Food is decent, prices are what you'd expect in Ann Arbor. Not a place I'd make a destination, but good enough if you're on that side of town.

Went on a recent visit to Ann Arbor, went for a late night snack with my grown children. We were excited that the menu included pierogi, which is hard to come across in Texas. The Korean barbecue flavored wings were also a hit. I had a Belgian style tripel that was pretty good. The service was great and we enjoyed the visit. Would go back next time in AA.

Nice selection of house drafts and bottles, also have some guest taps. Service was.......bad. Empty glasses sat as I wished for another beer, food order was not put in by our waitress (she did apologized for this). Food finally arrived, warm at best. All in all not impressed by beer, food, or service. I am by far a patient person but if this place was in my hometown it would be a one and done experience.

My wife and I stopped here to see the results of their remodeling and to experience this brewery for the purposes of this review. We've been here many times before but have never written a review. This was also the first stop of an afternoon pub crawl. We had lunch and a sampler flight of 6 beers knowing that we couldn't have any more than that with three more pubs to visit.
All of the beers that we chose are also available in bottles on store shelves, so we were disappointed that there were no pub-only options. However, we had not previously had one of the beers, the pilsner, so we made it a point to choose it. We have always liked Arbor's beers, and today was no exception. All were what we remembered them being, and the pilsner was one of the best that we've had at a craft brewery. Aside from the 6-packs of their regular beers that are in a cooler for carry-out sales, there were also several specialty beers available in 750 ml. bottles, and we chose to purchase the sour version of their 20th anniversary barleywine. We're looking forward to popping that cork.
The food has always been very good here, and our lunch selections were no different. The menu has changed a bit since our last visit several years ago (a more healthy, organic theme), and the new choices are what we focused on for our lunch.
We go back a ways with our appreciation for this pub, and today's visit further cemented our desire to continue to support this brewery.

This was a quick stop drank 2 pints. One a very meh sour and a nice chili porter. Service was self service to the bar. The bar tender was a bit slow. The selection was what was expected with a couple positive bumps. The food I did not try. We used to have an option for N/A. So I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say food is at least average and edible.
