12 oz. picked up in Columbus. Glad someone added this as I was too lazy to.
Lighter orange/brown pour than I was expecting. Nice finger of off white. Retained pretty well.

Aroma, nutty, earthy malt, some chocolate, vanilla, herbal notes.

Taste, toasted malt and hazelnut. Sinks nicely into molasses, caramel and vanilla. Just light oak and pear. No real hop presence. Barrel added a nice tick up to a light brown ale I feel.

Heavy side of light bodies, middle of the road carbonation also. No heat, one of the more drinkable barrel aged brews I've had. Worth trying, but I bet this goes south pretty quickly, as has been my experience with low abv barrel aged beers.

Angry GOAT is a nut brown ale aged in whiskey barrels. Clearly evident from the aroma. The only beer I've had with more whiskey in the aroma is Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. There is some nuttiness in the back, too. Whiskey dominates the flavor, but there's more there. Hints of nuts, sweet malt, and a sour finish.

Outstanding if you love whiskey. Which I do! Not sure the sourness is necessary.

Poured into a bottle into a pint glass from an undated bottle.

Appearance: A light cloudy brown though fairly opaque. The half-finger head settled into a layer of foam that persisted throughout the drinking.

Aroma: Typical of this style: a quite sweet bourbon.

Taste: Strong, sweet bourbon but without hardly any malt backbone. There was an odd metallic component (seemed to lessen as the beer warmed) and a slight bitterness. More depth or richness would have been nice. There was hardly any hops presence.

Mouthfeel: Appropriate for this style, though maybe a little thin.

Overall: Because of the slight metallic taste, the lack of balance between the sweetness and malt, and lack of depth, I can't call this a favorite. Won't look for this one again but wouldn't turn it down if there were no other decent craft beers available.

Very creamy with incredible mouthfeel. A must pick if you like Whiskey. Easy to drink, very aromatic (key Whiskey notes). Doesn't leave an unwanted lingering aftertaste like some aged beers. Doesn't taste as dark as it looks in a bottle. Solid beer.

This beer is exactly what I expect a brown to look like, and it's pretty typical for the style: about medium brown in color (duh), fairly thick but certainly holding a touch more clarity than a porter or bigger. The head is tan, not especially large but tight. Retention is good and patchy lacing is steady.
There's a firm bourbon overtone in the nose that adds plenty of warmth, wood and vanilla-like sweetness combining with a nutty note and the faintest roast in a firm, earthy/bready malts backbone.
Again, the bourbon comes out plenty strong in the flavor without being overbearing. This is well-executed, and it proves these guys are pretty good with barrels. Reviews are a little skewed, as some were made despite obvious infection, but there's nothing funky, tart or sour about this beer. It has a sweetness on the higher end but avoids being cloying. Malts are strong, pretty earthy mostly, with some breads. There is just a hint of dark fruits lurking. The base beer is a good brown, not world class but far from as weak as many out there. Woods cut through the sweetness a bit, and the nut goes the whole way through.
It is a little thin, the alcohol cutting through the malts a little, though the body is an even medium strength. It's fairly clean, but slightly grainy on the end. Between the sweetness, the wood and the alcohol, it's pretty much semi-dry the whole way.

A - Pours a Dark chestnut brown color with an even creamy layer of foam on top and quiet carbonation. Yep, looks like a brown ale.

S - Aroma is light with sweet dark fruit and some earthiness, not much more.

T - Dark fruit (plums & black cherry with black cherry dominating) from start to finish with a little bit of tartness and an extremely mild bourbon presence. Finishes with a sugary dark fruit light bourbon presence.

M - Full medium body with little to no carbonation on the tongue.

O - How many times were these barrels used and did the beer sit long enough in the barrel? Maybe not a good barrel match for this particular style? Very little character/complexity and I still have three more left to drink, if I were the goat, I'd be angry too. The dark fruit aspect is nice and would be interesting with more bourbon presence. Since I have three left I'll give it three more tries and adjust my review accordingly. There are some flavor merits to this beer.

November 2012 brewed. Big whiskey taste, which helped this lightweight brown beer. Not super drinkable but had some decent taste without being heavyweight booziness. Thanks, Steve in Warren.Just OK. Would like more body, and more character to the brown, i.e. chocolate malts.

12oz bottle
Served in a perfect pint glass

A - A gentle pour caused me to end up with a half glass of tan foam. The body of the beer is burnt orange with amber highlights.

S - The smell is sweet like ripe fruit. Upon further investigation I get some darker earthy aromas and some sweetness of molasses.

T - The taste has some sourness to it. I'm not sure that this is an intended trait. I get some earthiness at the tail end and maybe a little bit of the whiskey.

M - It's kind of thin.

O - I like barrel aged beers, but it struck me as a little odd that it has such a low ABV. This beer wasn't horrible, but it was far from great.
