Been months since I had this, but it was excellent. Leaning toward session-ish ABV, it had a complexity and lingering aftertaste that was remarkable. Stone's session IPA, "Go To IPA" is reminiscent hop-wise, but the hop flavors (while delicious) die-off rather quickly in the aftertaste. Self-Conscious added dark, roasty, bitter malts which really lingered on the palate. One of my fave lower ABV beers...which really should be in regular production by Stone.

Served from a fresh cask at a Wetherspoons pub.
Provided a pleasant temporary reprieve from the more tame, traditional beer fare that usually populates drinking establishments.
A - Poured a 1 inch head, brown. Not much retention to speak of, but good lacing.
S - Mostly roast barley, although hops make a subtle appearance
T - Smell was a good indication. Roast barley, solid malt backbone and pleasantly forward hop characteristics, for an English beer, that is.
M - A tad thin for my tastes. Decent carbonation for a cask ale.
O - My rating is padded because while the beer is merely good, my drinking experience was excellent. Very exciting to see a Stone beer being served by an establishment like Wetherspoons. Provided a ray of libational sunshine during my months spent abroad.

Pours a fairly dark brown color with a good off-white head and some nice lacing. The nose brings forward some light roasted malt plus a really strong amount of citrus and pine hops. Stone sure nails the black ales, even when done as a mild. Flavor isn't quite as pungent, leaving just a bit of roast and a moderate pine presence. Bitterness isn't overpowering, but is definitely noticeable. Light body with good carbonation and a slightly-dry finish. Solid effort, for sure. Cheers to Stone for producing another high-quality low alcohol beer.
