10oz tulip at Capital Alehouse, Fredericksburg, VA.

Heck of a head for an 11.2% beer. Very cloudy, last pour from this keg, and deep maroon.

Honeyed, boozy, generic berry with astringent vitamin C. Chalky, sweet, and tart aromas.

Tastes of booze, dry red wine with significant tannins. The oak shows up, including vanilla. Sharp, biting beer.

Mouthfeel is a little slippery. Thin and thick at once. Very drying.

Excellent beer. I'd like all Double Bastard to be red wine barrel aged.

Poured from limited draft at a superb local Beef O'Brady's on $3 craft pint night. Murky, dirty brown color. Slight suds in the Oskar blues glassware. Aroma slightly fruity.

Flavor is rich and definitely heavy on the palate, with muted hops and a tart fruit character. This one resembles a strong aged barleywine, with the smooth fruity accents. Didn't catch the grape nor wine notes, though.

Definitely a challenge to finish, and had to actually force it down.

Served from tap in to a flared pilsner. Poured a hazy red-orange with a one finger off-white head. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, earth, sweet alcohol, wood, red wine, and subtle funk. The flavor was of sweet malt, earth, nutty, earth hop, wood, sweet alcohol, oak, and fruit. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. The barrel was a pretty dominant aspect of this brew. It overwhelmed almost all of the delicate flavors and aromas going on. While this was a let down, it still didn't destroy the brew as a whole. The red wine shined through as well as the hoppy aspect. Worth your time if you're a fan of either of these flavors.
