Bomber poured into a snifter. The brew appears a hazed golden copper color with an offwhite cap 2+ fingers strong that fades back to a thin film. Stringy lace sticks to the glass.
The aroma opens strangely fruity and tropical to herbal with a firm smokiness. Under the fruited quality is a touch of clove and yeastiness. The fruit plus sweetness coupled with smoke makes for a unique combo that is very atypical of a saison.
The taste is fruity with almost a woody quality before the smokiness sets in. Herbal to fruity bitterness is there with a bold alcohol aspect. The flavors are not terrible, they just dont mingle well together. The phenolics are mild compared to what I was expecting.
This is quite a mishmosh clashing brew. Very boozy and strangely sweet/tropical with a lot of smokiness. As it warms, some phenolic plastic notes come out taking this in an even stranger bad direction. I really wanted to like this but the "imperialized" aspect of it was sadly focused too much on characteristics I dont like (plastic, sweetness, etc.)
