Consumed 3/25/14

Appearance: Crystal clear golden orange - more of a straight-up gold when held to the light - pours with a small, white head, retains a few wisps of a cap, leaves a few streaks of lacing

Smell: Bright, fruity grapefruit - fairly hoppy, but mostly it smells reminiscent of an actual grapefruit, complete with rind, flesh, and pith - not entirely one-dimensional, as there are some floral notes and some pine in the back, along with a very light touch of onion - rather unusual, but definitely interesting - absolutely devoid of malts

Taste: Definitely memorable, but not really in a good way - the actual flavor is a disappointment compared to the aroma - some grapefruit flavor, but it's oddly hollow - like chewing on a peel - moderate amount of bitterness - light touch of pine - malts are so delicate that is is almost reminiscent of citrus-flavored seltzer water - not what I would call bad, but definitely not up to Stone's standards

Mouthfeel: Light body, crisp carbonation, nicely refreshing

Overall: Go (back) To Stone IPA

Stone has been one of my favorite breweries for years. Maybe that is why I am a bit disappointed with this offering. In the past, they have produced some fantastic IPAs. This just kind of falls flat. They could have done better if they just watered down some Stone IPA, or Ruination, or <insert awesome Stone IPA here>. I'll stick with Founders All Day or Lagunitas DayTime if I'm in the mood for the style.

Pours into a nonic a dull lighter golden with a half finger white head that fades quickly leaving a half ring of broken lace behind.Lighter aromas with grapefruit rind standing out most with a bit of toasted cereal grain as well.A big shot of grapefruit and lemon oil hits ya on the palate and lingers for quite awhile along with sweet biscuit in the finish, quite a nice shot of hops.Maybe the best "session" IPA I have had yet.

I've now tried this beer on draft twice; no bottles yet.

Appearance: It looked yellow to me, and had no head at all by the time I walked from the bar to the beer garden.

Smell: Super strong hops! Lots of citrus, but also some more astringent herbaceous notes and some floral.

Taste: Not nearly as bitter as I was expecting from the hop-bomb scent, but not at all sweet, either. A very thin, dry flavor that disappears quickly, making it extremely drinkable and summery, although slightly drying.

Mouthfeel: I found that this beer had a very thin body that bordered on slightly watery. Not overly carbonated, although the dryness of the flavour emphasized the carbonation. All of this means it's very refreshing and extremelt sessionable, but by no means a full-bodied beer.

Overall: I am a fan of session IPAs; it's nice to get through three beers with friends and not be much affected by alcohol. I love the citrus notes, and would definitely buy this in hot weather. However, my go-to session IPA is still Founder's All Day. It's higher in alcohol, but overall a more solid beer.

Served in an imperial pint glass at The Portsmouth Brewery. The beer was gold in color with a small head. There was a little bit of lace.

Citrus, pine, and sweet malt aroma.

Grapefruit and piney taste. A little bit of caramel.

A hoppy beer, well-balanced.

Nice beer. A sessionable IPA.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear golden yellow with a big fluffy white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is lots of dank resiny piney hops. Some garlic comes out as it warms.

The flavor is a little bready malt and fruit with resiny, piney hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly watery and metallic.

Overall, a solid session IPA. Lots of good piney resiny bitterness. Still has a slightly watery mouthfeel.

12 ounce bottle - Enjoy by 5/26/14 etched onto the neck of the bottle.

Pours near clear lighter near golden amber. Light tan head, loose and frothy. Leaves strands of low lacing and scattered bits.

Bold hoppy nose, pleasantly hoppy on the palate. Easy drinking and quite enjoyable. Nice fresh tasting "session" IPA. Well worth a try and I expect this will be enjoyed again and again. Went great with some cheddar and crusty bread.
