From Kyle Hollingsworth:
Here we go! It's a new year in brews. I've got a feeling it's going to be a good beer year.
I started 2014 in San Diego with my friends at Stone Brewing Company. We're making a nationally-released beer for the spring. This is a collaboration between Stone, Keri Kelli and me - guitarist for Alice Cooper and beer connoisseur from LA.
It's a wild mixture on many levels. Keri and I are pretty far apart in our music worlds, but it makes for great "mashup" of hard rock and funk. The beer will definitely go to 11! With an ABV of 9.8% and coriander, elderberries it's as unusual as our musical backgrounds. Look for that at special events in April and everywhere soon after.
More immediately, I'm working with SKA Brewing Company for a one-off brew. This is for my upcoming 2014 BrewSki tour in Colorado. I'm excited to get out and play yet another fun weekend with music, brews, and snow. With "Kyle's Manipulated Modus IPA," we added more hops (if you can believe that), an additional dry hop of Mandarina Bavaria and an orange peel in a whirlpool. I haven't tasted it yet, looking forward to the enhanced flavor profiles.
There are lots of new brews in the works for 2014. I'm getting ready to release a new solo disc in August and plan to have a beer come out with each single. I'm calling it "Hop tracks." Stay tuned for more info on these brews.

22 oz. bottle, with bottled on date 05/10/2014 printed on the bottleneck. Another new collaborative IPA invention from Stone. Expectations are pretty good based on this knowledge. Bottle lists a 9.30% abv.
Poured into a Duvel tulip glass, per the death of my snifter.
A - Pours a bright juicy orange colored body with two and a half fingers of thick creamy khaki head with excellent staying power for the high abv. Some active carbonation lazily going up the sides of the glass. Looks pretty nice.
S - The smell is very nicely done also. Fruity, fresh, and tropical. Mild soapiness. Oranges, grapefruits, pineapple, & the beautiful berry aromas. Lightly floral which must be from the coriander, and with a light bready malt base noticeable underneath.
T - Very tropical, fruity, floral, and fresh tasting. Juicy and refreshing, even, despite the near 10.00% abv. Grapefruit, mango, orange, pineapple, elderberries. Juicy, tropical, and delicious.
M - The feel is smooth and creamy, refreshing despite the high abv, and leaves a nice fruity, citric, resinous hop bitterness on the palate. A very berry and hoppy aftertaste. Medium bodied with excellent carbonation.
Overall, a wonderful new IPA creation from Stone. It doesn't terribly push the boundaries of what a great IPA should be, but the elderberries was a nice addition. Not really picking up on any distinct "coriander" throughout, but it is a very fruity, fresh, and floral beer indeed. Well worth seeking out.

I like the added elements here, elderberries and coriander, that make this IPA lean towards Belgian territory. Dark copper color with initial medium beige head. Aroma comes on like a Belgian strong ale. Taste has an even malt and hop duality, rich and toasty, sharp and bitter, all at once. A step beyond the IPA class, nicely done.

Notes from phone. Bomber poured 9/9/2015 into a pair of Darkness tulips.
Cloudy light amber, frothy and retentive white head.
Massive fruity aroma. Bright citrus notes consisting of grapefruit, orange peel, and lemon zest along with a healthy dose of tropical fruits, mostly pineapple and a bit of elderberry. Honey and a touch of caramel. Coriander is present as it warms up.
Interesting flavor. Similar to the aroma with all the assorted fruity notes. Bit of honey with a touch of spice. Noticeably alcoholic and a slightly astringent finish, but not overly so.
Moderate carbonation. Medium-bodied with a healthy oaty presence. Soft, velvety.
Overall very good, but missing something.

A deep rich amber color with a nice crown of a foamy off-white head. Nose and flavor profile is big on grapefruit.

This is the first beer from Stone that has not rated better than a 4.0
I typically like collaborations and this was a better than average effort, but just slightly. The blueberry and coriander did not go well together. Don't try to be so creative and just keep giving us great Stone IPA's - that is what Stone does best.
