A - An active cascading pour yields just shy of two fingers worth of airy crisp dirty white colored head with a bit of a rocky top that turns slightly creamier as it settles a bit... Solid retention gives way to a full thick veil of creamy whimsical lacing... The color is a vibrant light amber with some light straw undertones... There is a very subtle haziness that is suspended throughout... Loaded with small bubbled brisk paced carbonation... A light bit of lacing clings to the sides of the glass... Overall a rather clean and crisp looking brew...

S - A big whiff floral aromas to start... Lavender... Next is a rather unique mix of spices... White pepper... Sage... Marjoram... Thyme... The Belgian yeast is buried beneath the surface... Some hay and fresh cut grass notes... There are also some very light lemon zest notes... Just a very subtle hint of bubble gum... Very nice complexity, but the various aromas do not necessarily compliment one another as much as I would like, especially for the style...

T - The spices dominate the palate... There is a strong pepper component... Next comes a mix of sage, thyme and marjoram... The pepper notes continue to intensify... All other flavors are a bit muted by comparison... Belgian yeast... Fresh cut grass... The floral notes appear on the finish and add nice depth and complexity... The flavors meld together a little bit nicer as this one warms a bit, but not enough to overcome the overall off putting flavor profile...

M - A subtle creamy texture to start... Quickly turns dry... The dryness continues to intensify throughout... Brisk carbonation... A bit too sharp for my liking and a bit rough around the edges...

D - The appearance and aromas are appealing enough, but things begin to fall apart a bit in terms of the flavor profile and mouthfeel... Overall a bit less than the sum of its parts... The end result is one of the few overall misses that I've encountered from Stone... The recent Stone Matt's Buring Rosids Smoked Saison is far far superior offering... There are too many excellent Saisons out there to recommend this one with good conscious... Sorry Stone...

Bottle from Damon’s in Augusta.
Pours a fairly clear medium golden color with a smallish bubbly white head that dissipates rather quickly. The aroma is filled with an overwhelming amont of spice that is barely backed up by some bready lemony malt, The flavor again is over the top spices with hints of bready lemon hints of earth and funk. Medium body mderate carbonation. Too spicy for me, I can see past the spice rack.

A: Hazy, but beautiful gold to pale straw in color. In hints at something hidden deep inside.

S: Something slightly funky with a distinct, but subdued sourness. Something quite unique, but strange, that I can't identify. It's killing me! Something herbal for sure. Maybe like a lemon thyme.

T: Refreshing and crisp, with some funky, earthy notes that are difficult to pick out from the cacophony. Clear, but hard to identify, botanicals. Tastes "green". Hints of herbs like marjoram and oregano. That's a first. Pleasantly tart, with some botanical bitters on the fairly long finish.

M: Creamy for a saison. But still crisp. Light overall, with a soapiness to it.

O: Not my favorite saison, but interesting enough to keep me coming back. I'm curious to place my finger on those mystery aromatics and flavors, but that might take a few more sittings, some contemplating, maybe even some time spent hunched over in my herb garden doing comparisons sniffs.

UPDATE: Not oregano. Definitely marjoram. And also white sage!

Update: Doh! I finally read the bottle... This brew is made with lemon thyme and lavender, plus lemon zest! That makes so much sense. I picked out the lemon thyme ( quite proud of that, actually), but missed the lavender. It's there if you go looking for it, but is easily hidden and confounded by the thyme and lemony notes. Nicely blended profile, but I still get marjoram and sage... It's an interesting bouquet to say the least!
