Poured into fluted snifter; amber-gold and clear with a fluffy off-white head made of tiny bubbles that fades slowly leaving dense, sticky lacing everywhere.
Smells of spice, dry piney hops and tropical fruit/citrus.
Taste follows nose exactly; coriander spice melds into dry piney hops which then turn juicy with citrus and tropical fruit. Some dry floral qualities too from the Calypso. Trying to find anything unique I could pin to the Vic's Secret, but can't find anything. Nothing wrong with another citrus/fruit AUS/NZ hop though, so I'm certainly not complaining. I have no idea what elderberries taste like so I don't know where they factor in here; there is sort of a berry-like sweetness.
Mouthfeel is medium, smooth and wet, finishes semi-dry.
Overall, a tasty IPA. I don't see the point of the superfluous ingredients (stuff like that is usually Dogfish's MO) but the elderberry isn't offensive. Could do without the coriander though. If I wanted a dry crisp beer with spices in it I'd drink a saison.

Pours a slightly hazed & effervescent amber with 2+ fingers of ivory colored head. Stellar lacing, almost as good head retention

S: Breadyness & pineapple, & woody hops

T: Woody hops, breadyness, pineapple, coriander, pears, & leafy hops up front. Orange peels, a little bit of caramel, pineyness, mango & grapefruit as this warms; some grassiness as well, a little boozeyness. Finishes with grapefruit, a little lemon, much pineyness, woody hops & pears & boozey

MF: Medium bodied/chewy, subtle carbonation, decent balance, warming

A nice DIPA, not their best, but on the cusp of it in many aspects, the off-beat additions drag this down a bit

Light haze in a yellow - gold glass that sports a lasting tight white head that coats the side of the glass in a thick curtain.

(insert Monty Python Elderberry joke here). Beyond the rose petal raspberry jam note of the berry, the coriander is pretty subtle and overwhelmed by a metric ton of hops. The hop notes are both earthy and citric and do let a bit of the fruity note through.

Slight tea tannin in the bitter intensity of the hops. A bit of fermented berry in the finish.

Puckering dry finish doesn't encourage the next sip. Slightly gritty carbonation, medium body.

I love Stone because they go big and they love hops. I love hops too, but this one is a bit too earthy for me. There is a slight tonic in the finish, something slightly metallic. A couple annoying elements to a well made beer.
