This brew pours black with a one finger mocha head and moderate to heavy lacing on the glass; mild carbonation.

The smell is heavy with floral hops, no real subtlety, just strong hops along with a roasted malt and burnt coffee backbone. There is also a pungent smell as well.

The tastes follows the nose with hops, then burnt coffee and roasted malts going back to hops. Not bad but not great considering all of the usual bragging that Stone does on their bottle.

The mouthfeel is thin and creamy, which might be strange for an IPA but that is how it feels. Some hop oil is left on the tongue after swallowing.

Overall this is not a bad IPA but not great. Stone over-hypes themselves by doing their usual bragging on the side of the bottle but this brew does not live up to the hype. Strong hops with no subtlety, roasted malts and burnt coffee. I would still say give it a try; I know that Stone is a popular brewery and you just might like this offering more than I.

Woo hoo! This is a special one.

It's black. Surprise. The head is weak, but the bubbles are fine. It looks appetizing. The aroma is mild but very complex. There is hops and malt and flavors like chocolate all mixed in the smell. Sweet.

The taste is aptly named - sublime. There is bitterness from hops mixed with chocolate (?) and roastiness. It's pretty awesome. The balance is perfect.

The aftertaste also has that sublime mix of different bitters. It feels great going down - not a hint of heart burn.

I highly recommend this and intend to buy it again.

Pours a dark brown in color with a 2 1/2 finger light tan head with good sustainability, that gradually recedes leaving thick, attractive, sticky lacing.

Sweet milk chocolate with a hint of caramel on the nose along with an herbal/over ripe citrus effect from the hop

Much drier than I expected. The taste is primarilly bitter coffee as opposed to the chocolatey aroma. Fruity esters rise in the back of the mouth, with herbal/grassy hops to back it all up. It becomes sweeter as it approaches room temperature.

Medium to medium-full in body with a light syrupy feel and light to moderate carbonation. Somewhat drying and astringent with a burn of alcohol.

Awesome aroma and a taste that definitely progresses into my optimal range as the beer warms. Another great offering by Stone.
