22oz bottle into my Stone IPA flute
Notes from 07/13/2014

A: Light straw golden color with just a smidge of hop haze running across the body. Active carbonation produces a nice and thicky thick head of ivory foam that settles over top holding strong for quite some time. Impressive looking brew for sure. Lots of noticeable stick and streamers of lace run down the glass.

S: Smells weedy with dank grass and herbal spice. I get some melon fruit and light citrus zest from there. It has a really bright lemony component to it as well. There is a little bit of caramel malt sweetness surfacing and some alcohol vapor. Smells nicely hopped with all kinds of juicy new age goodness going on.

T: Flavors deliver much of the same with more pine and herbal spice essence. Green melon and some light tropical florals meld into the scene. The beer has a dash of caramel malt sweetness but it stays bone dry with a long lasting resinous finish. Good peppery bitterness across the palate and some not so shy alcohol. All things considered it has good balance and this is a really nice DIPA. I particularly love that you get Beachwood’s hop driven influence coming across in this which is great.

M: Light body with a nice even consistent frothy carb. There is an upper amount of puckering bitterness that carries into a dry finish and nice lasting linger of hop resins. Touch of alcohol warmth noted.

D: This is one of the better Stone Collabs and I don’t think Beachwood would ever put a bad IPA out so definitely nice to check this one out. It is not super pungent OMG gotta drink MOAR! But it is really solid and gives you a nice unique experience with them experimental greens.

22oz bomber shared between two glasses. My glass was a Rastel tulip glass. Bottled on 07/15/14.

Appearance: Hazy gold to light amber with a thin white ring as the edge and the barest skin of foam across the top. The haze (chill haze) goes away as the beer warms up. Lacing is small islands and stubby strands which are persistent.

Smell: Grapefruit, citrus, fresh cut tropical fruit, leafy.

Taste: Citrus up front, with peach and black currants in the middle. Just a hint of malt sweetness to complement all the hops. Bitter finish of more grapefruit with some leafy/woody notes at the end. Very hoppy, but oh so nice.

Mouthfeel: Smooth with just right carbonation, and a lot of hop oils sticking to the teeth.

Overall / Drinkability: Definitely no need to apologize for this DIPA - a showcase of hops and hops and hops - everything a hophead would want, and really a well done DIPA. Drinkability is dangerous, I could go for another bottle and would be in trouble later. The beer went well with food (Chicken Pailard with curry gravy) and I think would be pretty good all by itself. Well done beer.

Wonderful golden color with excellent clarity. A fingernail thin layer of white head is present and covers the majority of the top of the beer. Brussels lacing. The hop aroma is primarily comprised of pineapple and tropical fruit. The taste is moderately bitter with notes of mango and pineapple. There's enough light malt to keep things in balance. Mouth is slightly sticky and chewy.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Solid two fingers of white head which slowly settle into a thinner layer. Leaves a good amount of lacing.

Smell: A juicy and dank hop forward aroma with big hints of citrus and pine. Big citrus hop scent with hints of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, lemon zest, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, and melon. Big presence of earthy and herbal hops with strong hints of pine resin and grass. Solid malt background with hints of grains, caramel, cracker, and yeast. A very good hop forward scent.

Taste: Like the smell leads, a very dank and juicy hop dominated taste with huge notes of citrus fruit and pine. Big juicy burst of citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, mango, orange peel, lemon, pineapple, passion fruit, apricot, and melon. Equally strong presence of herbal and earthy hops with big notes of pine resin and grass. Nicely bitter. Background malt notes of grains, cracker, caramel, and yeast. A very good hoppy taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, chewy, and very drying on the finish. Alcohol heat is fairly mild.

Overall: Another top notch IPA from Stone. Very good mix of citrus and piney hop esters.

On tap at Stone's brewpub in San Marcos.

Pours amber with a white head that soon reduces to a ring but leaves some spotty lacing.

Aroma: Strong herbal/floral hop aroma with a faint malt base.

Flavor: pungent and strong hops; a bit challenging to drink. Bitter.

Feel: medium body; medium, lightly crisp carbonation.

O: strong IPA for hop heads.
