A blend of fresh and barrel-aged ales
First Release: May 2015
A beer that pays homage to a centuries-old tradition of combining new beer with aged “stock ales.” Freshly brewed beers of the day often were very smoky and bitter tasting, and were blended with older beer that had mellowed with age to produce more drinkable libations. This modern brew showcases our brewers’ talents in blending a stock ale aged more than three months in oak foudres (large wooden fermentation vessels) with a fresh version of the same beer to create a perfect harmony spanning end to end on the taste spectrum.

2015 bottling - nose and body immediately give off spice and pepper notes, reminds me of a Belgian strong. Some caramel malt in the body and a touch of light grapes to finish. Held up well for 5+ years of aging

Had at 2015 version in 2020, during the Quarantine (ask your parents!) of 2020. Full disclosure, lost my grandfather today as I am a couple beers in. Of all the aged (5yrs) beers of 4 so far today this has the most character to it. Great spice and taste. Definitely unique. Tasty and goes down knowing you are more manly for it.

May 28th, 2015 - A beer for a sweet Spring day, the Stone Stochasicity HiLow is a tuft of cotton candy in a glass. The color is a clear and medium-dark orange-brown (or a light amber) with some bubble gum, strawberry and a light sourness on the nose. And the flavor is equally sweet, and maybe even more so. The thicker palate amplifies the sweeter notes giving it more of a white grape juice and pear syrup blend. Though thick, it is tasty and a great contender for my empty growler today.

Had this at the Strange Brew 2018 festival. Pours a copper color. Copper might come up again. Good amount of caramel malt, alcohol and bittering hops in the nose.
Taste had plenty of the copper bitterness going for it. I guess Imperial Penny Ale wasn't as cool of a name as this mixtape scoodoo. I didn't get anything woodsy out of it. Somewhat reminded me of an old double ipa with tons of crystal malt and 100ibu bitterness. The alcohol just keeps coming at you in the mouth feel, especially as it warms. This beer doesn't improve in any way as it warms. Only brings out those aspects that you weren't super jones'd about in the first place. It kind of gives you the feeling that they had a beer that nobody liked, or would like. So they decided to try and blend that with something else to get rid of it. The ol' Smoking Wood trick.

Poured this cold (40 degrees )into a tall beer tumbler copper cloudy poured too fast and a large head resulted ,it quickly dissapated. Smells of orange and sweet malts.Up front taste of piney and citrusy hops ,tangerines and a bit of sweet chocolate fades quickly to a pleasant bitterness. Moderate carbonation is an OK choice. Not as overstuffed with flavors as a lot of Stones strong ales.Don't know much about the blending of new and old ales...would be interesting to taste them separately and then taste this combo to see if what they were trying to achieve worked the way they said. Discontinued, might buy it again if they bought it back

I bought this beer a while back aged it for a few months and now I will consume it. Poured into a pint glass at 45 degrees. A minimal head that surprisingly kept up the retention on it. The color of the beer is a copper color with some light brown hues. The clarity of the beer is slightly cloudy. Some carbonation bubble traveling to and fro within the beer.
N: Citrus note are the first aromas I pull off the beer. Toasted malts, hints of caramels, melon, bready, and some fruity esters.
T: A strong toasted malts, caramel, bread, high fruity esters, grapefruit, oak, pine, lemons, oranges, solvent, yeasty, and floral notes.
MF: Astringent, medium plus body, medium low carbonation, and the finish is lingering
O: The beer has a wonderful nose, but the taste for me just does not deliver. The beer has a pungent solvent flavor with other wonderful characters. This is a let down by stone, could be much better.
