Stone Xocoveza Extra Anejo will grace the brewery’s coveted Quingente Millilitre Series, a souped-up version of the original release. In addition to the cocoa, coffee, peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg that was added to Xocoveza Mocha Stout, Stone has aged this edition in both red wine barrels and tequila barrels.
The base beer is the recipe of 2014 Stone Homebrew Competition winner Chris Banker, an intensely flavorful milk stout brewed with coffee and spices to mimic the rich flavors of Mexican hot chocolate.
Stone Xocoveza Extra Anejo will be available in 500ml bottles in very limited quantities.

2015 release, Batch 02. Poured form a cork'n'cage bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Cloudy dark, dark brown pour. Nearly black with a finger of fizzy mocha colored head. Thing ring of lacing.
S: Rich and sweet. Spice, cocoa, smoke, and peppers. Maybe a hint of tequila.
T.F: Semi-sweet and roasty. Milk chocolate, pepper, spice, and smoke. The red wine and tequila are subtle but work really well with the brew. Some oak and char, but more hot cocoa and spice. The peppers are still strong. Medium bodied... warming. Somewhat fizzy carbonation.
O: Excellent stuff. I love Xocoveza and this variant does the base beer justice.

April 25th, 2016 - The Extra Anejo is an extra luxury, showing off Stone's aptitude and ability for strong flavors and strong beers. They don't always hit, but this one is a success. With coconut on the nose and a slight alcohol burn around the nostril, it's no secret that there's a lot of oomph in this bottle. It also smells like a clean desert evening, campfire and aloe, capturing those San Diego camping trips. Smooth and creamy, the mouthfeel is smooth and slow to deliver the alcohol burn, with some chocolate liquor and cherry notes. And closer to the aftertaste are hints of raspberry and dark chocolate - a supremely delicious and decadent brew.

Not sure if I waited too long to crack this one. Taste is a little chalky. Still get mocha/cocoa/coffee/ a little tequila. The head on there was awesome. Huge tan khaki foamball.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, black chocolates, with some light coffee notes with some light barrel notes. Taste is super complex with nice black chocolate notes with lactose, peppers, coffee with some oak and light barrel-aged notes rounding off any rough edges. Body is full with good carbonation and no overly apparent alcohol notes. Great balance of different flavours which end up working quite well together.

Poured from the Quingenti 2015 series, Batch 6. 8.5% ABV.
Pours jet black, lots of frothy tan foam. Thin lace on the glass.
You get lots of coffee and cinnamon with hints of red wine on the nose. Sweetness accompanies in the back, dominated by chocolate. Can’t really find the tequila so far.
A lot more bitter than on the nose. Lots of ground coffee and slight spice. I am getting some slight tequila booze and a very evident red wine finish that lingers heavily.
A thinner body body than expected, and frothier too.. this is something I’ve noticed more and more with Stone Quingentis that have sat for awhile.
Overall, this is finally the last Xocoveza variation I needed to try. Although it’s not my favorite, I like that I can find every component, and they blend nicely.

Bottle.
A: Lots of pepper, light tequila and vinous with light roasted malts and a touch of sweetness.
A: Jet black, opaque, with a dense thin khaki head.
T: Peppery upfront, with light tequila and vinous character, followed by moderate coffee and chocolate notes.
M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: Alright; the pepper seems to have intensified over the years and has become more prominent, taking away from the beer's complexity a bit.

2015 bottle, batch 6, poured in a snifter glass. Smell of sweet chocolate, coffee, and the tequila barrel come through. Taste resembles the aroma with an added taste of vanilla, and malts. Not as complex as the regular Xocoveza but it was still very delicious.
