Crystal clear light copper hue. Steadfast head. Wow. Intensely pungent, citrusy, piney, obnoxiously American hop nose. The hop flavor is no surprise... intense and essentially a continuation of the aroma. Assertively bitter. Finishes surprisingly dry... I think there may be some malt there... who knows!? This is a hop lovers dream. Can't really tell that it's 8.5% by vol due to the assertiveness of the hops. Hop character overshadows any alcohol presence. Superbly drinkable.

The beer arrived after pouring from the huge bottle a pale light golden with a slight haze and a white extremely long lasting head which laced the glass.

The aroma was malty with muted American hops present in a complex expression. The aroma lasted for as long as drops of beer lingered in the glass.

The flavor was malty with a strong hop flavor and bitterness present, but both had a complexity that added to the balance. The malt flavor was huge and the flavors are well blended.

The finish was dry with a long lasting muted malty bitterness well into the aftertaste. The body was medium full.

3 Qt. 5.4 fl ounce bottle (probably better called a 3L) at CAH Innsbrook. Given by the CAH to the BA event. What a treat! 2001 on the bottle.

Man I love the nose on these Stone beers...SPECTACULAR!!...It want to smell it. Hop smell is sweet, fresh and spicy at different points...This is a truly outstanding beer..."Strong" malt backbone balances and accentuates the terrific hop profile...some caramel notes...not a real bitter finish, just a well balanced IPA with fresh spicy hops balanced by a caramel malty backbone...not many, if any, IPA's better than this...
