Was lucky enough to have this on tap earlier this year. I'm a big fan of Ruination and was excited to give this one a test run when I saw it.

Appearance: Golden, copper color with a nice head.

Smell: Super funky hop aroma. Smells like the regular version x3 with a little more of a piney smell to it.

Taste: Super bitter hop bomb that smashes the palate the second you taste it followed by a slight malt backbone that doesn't seem to balance out the hops. Pine and citrus. Definitely a palate wrecker for sure, but quite enjoyable. Very fresh tasting as well.

Mouthfeel: Not too oily but just enough to coat the tongue, doesn't matter because the hops go crazy in your mouth.

Overall: Anther solid effort from Stone. Ruination is a delicious brew so to get this stronger, fresher tasting version was a treat. Hopefully I'll catch this one on tap again at some point.

Another ruination Deviant - batting 1.000 thus far...the dry hopping has a similar effect as Racer 5000...really imparts a leafy green bite to the already fiercely hopped ruination. Bright, grassy, fiercely citrus. Strong stuff.

Had on draft, but forget where. Pours a nice golden color with a big fluffy white head. Aroma of huge vegetal hops, pine, grapefruit, some pale malts in the background. Flavor follows the aroma exactly. Very much like regular ruination with some additional grass and vegetal hops. Lots of grapefruit and pine, big bitter as expected from the name. Slick mouthfeel, slightly dry, medium high carbonation. Great beer.

A: Orange in color with a thick head at pour. Head dissipates to minimal. Really nice lacing.

S: Hops. Grassy and spices. Really enticing

T: Bitter from front to back. Again more earthy hop flavors. Excellent flavor.

M: A bit watery but I think this is the tap. Otherwise nice medium body.

O: I'll have another.

Had this at Public House in Vegas. Poured into small goblet. Nice copper color with great lacing. Very grassy flavor at the start, but the hops take over. And did thy take over. This had a nice mouthfeel and a staying carbonation. But this had a great hop blast. Very good beer

On tap at The Owl House in Rochester, NY.

Pours a golden yellow, with a one inch head, and tree ring like lacing down the glass.

Smells incredibly resinous, lots of pine needles and sap, along with grapefruit.

Similar taste. Searing, shredding hop bitterness on display here- just zaps your tongue over and over again- feels like it's getting ripped apart. That makes it sound bad, but I didn't mind it. I'd prefer a bit more complexity of flavor, but it's mainly just piney bitterness, with a bit more bitterness from grapefruit.

Dry, crisp mouthfeel. Good carbonation. A sipper.

One of the hoppiest beers there is- actually manages to add on to the hoppiness of regular Ruination. This works much better than RuinTen, in my opinion.

Reviewing the Pacific Gem, Mosaic, Helga, Southern Cross dry hopped version.

A: Pours a clear golden color with a thick, oily, off-white head that left tons of sticky lace down the glass.
S: Fresh raw hop cones on the nose. Hops are stanky, dank, piney, and bitter smelling. Ridiculously fresh.
T: Again, super duper fresh with crushingly bitter notes of clean and crisp pine and grass. Faint citrus. Fresh fresh fresh (and bitter).
M: Medium-full body, greasy fresh hop resin mouthfeel, perfect smooth carbonation.
O: This took fresh hops to the next level. I'd love to try this or the other dry hopped combinations again.

Served cold on tap at The Mayor in a tulip glass.

Hazy light copper colored ale with tight sticky head and nice lacing.

Aroma is super hoppy, as I expected. Citrus and pine in equally huge amounts.

Flavor is so intense, I wonder if I'll be able to taste anything else the rest of the day. So bitter but also has tons of hop taste. Almost like when I tried eatting a hop pellet.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, nicely carbonated, and not really balanced at all.

Overall a crazy big IPA and one that really lives up to its name.

on tap at cheeky monk colfax, an exquisite beer for the refined hophead. this one pours light and clear, honey colored, with a delicate pure white lace on top. smells sticky and fresh, big bold hop nose mixing pine and grapefruit to create a bittersweet sappy aroma, just beautiful. the taste is a degree or so less intense and fresh. the hops are still huge, but the oily fresh picked vibe is all but gone. some sweetness comes thorugh, like clover honey, this beer tastes more floral than anything now. maybe from the yeast. mouthfeel is brightly carbonated but not too heavy on the body. i also like the fact that the alcohol is low key, even though its super strong. i enjoyed this a lot.

On tap at Far Bar in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a clear gold with a foamy bone colored head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest. Taste is much the same with a herbal hop finish. There is a medium hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

Had this on tap at my favorite watering hole. This was an amazing DIPA! I was very impressed. Poured a nice golden with nice lacing. Smell was big pine and citrus hops. Taste followed nose and was super resiny. Mouthfeel was medium. Overall, this is a great example of a true DIPA. Big hops and not a big malt bill. I am a fan and will seek this out in the future.

Enjoyed at iTap-Soulard for StL Craft Beer Week. Copied form notes.

Poured into a tulip glass from the tap.

Gorgeous orange and golden yellow hues with some awesome haze start this off. Nice 1 inch head forms that is soapy, dense and sticky. Retention is amazing and it leaves some nice lacing along the glass.

Peach, pineapple and grapefruit notes start things off. Awesome grassy notes are very present with some herbal and dank character. Yum. Citrusy and delicious nose.

Taste follows the nose. Bitter sweet pineapple notes with tangerine and grapefruit notes. This is a perennial and classic west coast super IPA. Flavor continues to be bitter and citrusy with a slight grassy and herbal notes as well as some good pine notes. This is fefinitely a hop bomb. Crisp and dry with a resinous hop finish. Quite bitter on the finish.

Nice dry and classic IPA. The dry hopping adds a bit more of an “umph” as if its needed. Citrusy and flavorful with nice grapefruit notes. Great iteration of Ruination.

Had on tap at Brouwer's Cafe

A: Pours a clear golden color with a small white head on top. Decent retention with foamy lacing randomly forming on the glass.

S: A very intense aroma, lots of citrus fruits, mostly grapefruit and lemon zest with plenty of pine on the back end.

T: Nice and bitter, but never really too bitter for me at least. More grapefruit with a bit higher percent of pine/resin than was on the aroma. All hops on this one as there really isn't much in terms of malt on the flavor profile.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Nice and bitter with a slightly dry finish.

O: Going in I thought this beer was going to over the top bitter, but it was very nice. Amazingly the malt kept things in check enough to make it surprisingly drinkable.

This was just about the best IPA I think I have ever had on tap anywhere. And I have had some really awesome IPAs. The floral noted from the dry-hopping were right up in your face. I had this side by side with the double dry-hopped IPA and the 10th Anniversary Ruination and this was my favorite of the three. It was so excellent. Funny because the first thing my friend Joel told me when I walked in the door of 1702 that night was that I had to try this one, it was the best. The most "Stone" he said. The hops were so out front but not overpowering in any sense. Excellent.

On-tap at Prime 16. Enjoyed side-by-side with the 10th Anniversary version.

A: Cloudy orange body with a persistent finger of creamy tan head. Tons of lace. Great.

S: Dank, herbal, and almost medicinal with the raw hops. Very leafy, floral, and piny. Quite nice.

T: Even pinier and hoppier than the nose, with some powerful grapefruit pith as well as just raw bitterness on the finish. A hint of pineapple lightens things up on the aftertaste. It doesn't get much more "west coast" than this. Terrific.

M: Fairly light-bodied with lots of lively, frothy carbonation. Ok.

O: Intense and aggressive, just like I remember from having Ruination years ago as one of my very first forays into hopbombs. Great stuff.

Cheers!

I was anxiously awaiting the pleasure of double dry hopped ruination, and now that i’m sipping it down I fully appreciate the extreme bitterness of the brew. Golden in color with a centimeter of persistent head and considerable residue clinging to the side of the pint. Lemony aromas mingle with hints of herbs and grassy notes. I get more of the malt body in this inception of ruination (maybe I need to try them side by side), but the delicious bittering hops come in on the back end to dry the palate. Solid west coast ipa to be sure, but the price tag at this bar ($7) doesn’t warrant a second round when I can purchase a bomber of standard ruination for $3.99 at select markets.

Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a hazy orange color with a big white head. The head fades fast to leave a light amount of lacing.

Smell –Just like the non dry hopped, a sweeter citrus hop aroma is heaviest. There is a nice breadiness that was also present that creates a very nice sweet aroma overall.

Taste – A sweeter malty base with good notes of caramel and citrus are the first to meet the tongue. A slightly bitter lemon flavor comes in and removes some of the sweetness. The citrus hop flavor intensifies in flavors of grapefruit and as the taste advances further some lighter pine hop flavors become evident. These hops take the taste to the end. At the very end the lemon and grapefruit hop flavor are strongest and create a more bitter flavor on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body is on the creamier side with a medium level of carbonation; both suiting the brew rather nicely.

Overall –A good brew with a nice balance between hoppiness and malt. The transitions are quite well between sweet malt and hop.

(from notes)
On tap at the Easy Tiger in Austin.

Look- Hazy amber with a hint of orange, served with no head, and leaves the glass squeaky clean.

Smell- Musky pine, wood, borderline catty. Heavy on the simcoe, I would guess. Weak aroma for a dry-hopped anything.

Taste- Less bitter than the standard Ruination, which surprised me. Fairly malty, very musky flavor. Lime, umami, subdued sweetness, resin. Finishes with toasted pine needles and herbal tea. Next to nothing in regards to the bright florals or citrus I was hoping for.

Mouthfeel- Slick, light carbonation. Moderate astringency. Moderately dry finish. Middle of the road for a DIPA.

Overall- I went in expecting a bigger, bolder, more tongue-curling rendition of Ruination with plenty of sweet citrus aroma and flavor, and was sorely disappointed. More balanced, I suppose, but that wasn't what I was looking for when I ordered a dry-hopped DAIPA. Not terrible, but moving a portion of the hop addition from the boil to the keg isn't worth an extra $2/pint. Probably would have rated this one higher if they had called it something else and left out the "double"

On tap at Tribes Alehouse & Grill - Mokena, IL

Pours amber in color, slightly hazy, with a foamy off-white head, good retention and lacing. Juicy hop aroma with grapefruit, floral hops, caramel, biscuit, and faint tropical notes. Tastes are pungent grapefruit, fresh dank hops, caramel, biscuit, loaded bitterness hangs on the palate with string, resiny pine. Mouth-feel is excellently smooth and creamy, medium-to-full bodied. Overall, a nice treat to come across on tap. This is excellent stuff; I like it more than regular Ruination, but quite not as much as I liked 10th Anniversary Ruination.

On tap at Beer Revolution. Pours a hazy golden amber with small white head that has good retention and leaves a huge amount lacing. The aroma is big grapefruit, some pine, a bit of caramel, some orange, and tangerine. The taste is fairly dry throughout with grapefruit, pine, a hint of caramel, and some orange. The finish has a pretty strong bitterness and is drying. Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. This beer is exactly how I like my IPAs. Quite dry with just a bit of malt coming through the hops. Fantastic. I would say this is slightly better than Pliny the Elder.

Pours a hazy golden apricot color with a dense half inch ivory head that dissipates slowly, leaving sheets of lacing.

Aroma is more malty than expected, considering the double dry hop additions. Caramel malt, grapefruit, pineapple, tangerine, a bit of dank basement, and resin form the aroma, finishing with pine.

Flavor is dominated by grapefruit, pineapple, green apple, mango, and tangerines, supported by a slightly bready malt backbone, which serves only to tire the citrus flavors together. The finish is fairly bitter and resiny. Dank flavors of cannabis surface as it warms.

Body is moderate, with moderately high carbonation, and a slight alcohol warmth.

Overall, not terribly different than the original, from what I recall. Another great brew from Stone! More fruit focused than the 10th Anniversary, which has more complex flavor.

Draft at The Pour House in Westmont, NJ.

Pours a very dark and completely opaque burnt orange color with a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring.  Chunks of lace left behind.

Dank, earthy aroma that's bursting with juicy, über fresh hops.  Nice balance of earthy pine and sweet citrus/tropical fruit notes.  Beautifully fragrant with grassy, piney hops followed by hints of mango, papaya, pineapple and orange peel.  Very faint pale malt presence with some biscuit and graham cracker.

Medium bodied with a blast of dry, earthy hops that linger over the sweeter notes and pale malt into a crisp, dry finish.  Never becomes too bitter because it's excellently balanced by citrus/tropical fruits and light malt presence.  Hints of pineapple, grapefruit, mango and orange peel followed by bready biscuit and graham cracker.  Excellently balanced and extremely quaffable.  Really refreshing with dry, bitterness and sweeter notes complimenting each other.  Highly recommended.

On-tap 5/18/2012 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick on the glass.

S: The aroma is an excellent blend of fruity citrus, floral hops and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with some citrus and caramel sweetness that is quickly followed by a strong grassy hops bitterness. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and provides an excellent balance. The after-taste is hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and very crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean and dry.

O: Very tasty, goes down quite easily, not too filling, good kick, great representation of style, this is an excellent beer to drink for a whole evening.
