Double dry hopped with Calypso hops

Clear auburn and ruby with a big, pillowing, tight light khaki colored head that leaves the glass coated in thick ribbons of lace. A gorgeous beer. Many at a family Super Bowl party commented on how pretty the beer was.

The aroma is simple and bready, with lots of toasted malt, pale malt, and a hint of caramel sweetness. This is lacking greatly in the pungent citrus hop character the base beer had on cask the last time I tried it. Disappointing.

The flavor too is lacking, especially compared to the cask version of the base beer I've had many times. Stone Levitation is one of my favorite low-alcohol selections, and I figured this double dry hopped version would be perfect for a long afternoon of football and beer drinking. The thing is, there's just hardly any flavor here other than bread, toast, and a slight sweetness.

Medium to full bodied with high carbonation. Appropriate.

Though there was nothing at all wrong with this beer, the Stone IPAs my dad always keeps in his fridge were significantly better than this offering. We didn't make it through a pint each of this before we decided to cut our losses and just drink the IPAs. Oh well.

This was a nice surprise. It's a very mellow session-style beer. Low ABV and hints of tea. Enough hops to be interesting. Clean, smooth finish. Reminded me of a nice English bitter. Smooth drinkability. Pared well with food. The hops didn't overwhelm the finish. Very nice. Not outstanding in flavor or color, but very drinkable. Easy drinking, without being over-hopped. Very enjoyable. Very smooth. I had this on draft in imperial pint glasses.

On tap at Frisco's last night

A: Deep amber with a dense 1-finger off-white head that recedes fairly quickly

S: A great dry hop aroma with lots of citrus and floral notes. Mild caramel sweetness in the back.

T/M: Starts off mildly hoppy with a thin caramel backbone. The aroma's great but overpowers all the flavors in this beer. The feel is way too thin and watery and the finish, pleasant. The carbonation is great, though

D: I'd drink a lot of this just 'cos it's a great session beer. I wouldn't necessarily enjoy myself a whole lot, though

Notes: I'd love to try the non-dry hopped version to see how it compares

On cask at Beachwood BBQ, on to the beer:

The amber reddish color with orange hues was attractive, as was the everlasting head on this. But its flavor didn't explode or impress me as much as the standard Levitation Ale. Pine and fruit are the dominating flavors here, and the hops are prickly feeling to the palate. I had a hard time finding any malt flavor, and I don't think I ever found it. Not bad, just below my expectations.

On cask at Beachwood BBQ. So I don't know if it was double dry hopped or whatever, but this was with Amarillo and Centennial hops... but i Know this review shouldn't be filed under the regular Levitation so I'm putting it here.

This beer was served hand pumped in an english pint glass with a big three finger foamy airy head. The body was a dark reddish-brown. The smell was fairly fresh, mostly smelling of the amarillo hops, and the taste was light yet a bit citrusy. The worst part about it was the mouthfeel. Not only was it not chilled at all, but it was totally flat. I understand cask should have a very subtle level of carbonation but this was totally flat. Anyway it would have been much better with a bit of carbonation.

Hand pump at Naja's Place. Claimed to be dry hopped with Columbus and Amarillo hops.

Dark amber to brown in color. semi opaque. Nice fine bubble head from hand pump.

Aroma has a moderate citrus hoppiness, little malt aroma is evident.

Uninspiring malt profile, some toastiness, very little sweetness - dry finish. Hints of stale wet cardboard flavors are present. The promise of nice hops flavors from the aroma did not materialize. Instead the hop flavors are kind of grassy and kind of like the flavor get an hour after eating green onions.

The hand pump pour gave some creaminess to an otherwise overly dry, light bodied beer.

This beer seemed neither malty or hoppy and the off-flavors,while not bad enough to dump the beer out, were a disappointment, especially from a brewery that normally provides very good beers.

Served in a 10 ounce Chimay goblet at Hollingshead's in Orange today after enjoying a Bear Republic Sammy's Strong Ale

Color was a pale golden straw color with a light orange tone, not as red as I was expecting with a nice soapy head, about an inch thick and clear white

Smell was full of different kinds of hops, pine, cascade, and continental were distinguishable, a little lemony scent as well

Taste was very nice for a pale ale, nothing like an amber to me, but I have different tastes than a lot of people, very hoppy and smooth, light citrus taste at the end but very faint, nice dry finish to top it off

Could have drank a lot of these, as could most people, very low in alcohol for the strength of its taste, tried not to drink too fast, but ended up guzzling it because it went down so easy

Thought I would have to wait for a brewery visit to try this, but I was lucky enough to find it here, I have not been to this place one time where there was not at least one fantastic beer on tap

Recommended, especially for Stone fans like myself
