A - poured opaque black with beautiful ruby hue when held to the light. Light tan 1.5 finger head was very creamy. Some lacing, and some head remained throughout.

S - similar to regular smoked porter, lots of chocolate, coffee, roasted barley, smoke, sweetness, the chipotles add a more campfire smoke character.

T - this is good, deep roasted barley and smoked malt character, very malt forward, can certainly taste the smokiness of the chipotle, but the heat really is only on the finish sort of delayed similar to cayenne, hops provide ample Bittering to go hand and hand with the spicyness... However it's very subtle. A little heat stays and I feel the heat more in my throat then in my mouth.

M - surprisingly refreshing, the carbonation and body are perfect, and the spicy finish makes me want to take another sip.

O - drinking this on its own, but this would be a great pairing for some BBQ meat. The spice is subtle, and the chipotle flavor is big. It melds a lot better with the base porter then it would any other style IMO.

22 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a dark brown color - quite light for a porter. The head is three fingers high, with a heavy cream shade. Retention is good. The texture is fairly creamy, leaving behind nice rings of lacing on the glass.

S: The smoky notes are very subtle, playing second fiddle to the fruity, nutty malt backbone. In addition, it takes on more of a peaty tone instead of a bacony one. Chipotle pepper comes out as it warms up. Unusually restrained for a Stone beer; luckily, it's restrained in all the right ways. Very pleasant.

T: It's more pepper forward than the nose indicated. The smoke - both from the malts and peppers - is to my liking. In other words, it's woodsy instead of bacony, and decently restrained. Another aspect to my liking is the heat level on the finish: it's evident, yet not oppressive. More and more sips reveal some nutty flavors. I want to say, though, that everything doesn't fully mesh together. The individual notes are nice, but come off as being disjointed with one another.

M: Pepper spice pricks the back of the palate, well enough to dry it out. Given its light body, it makes it quite drinkable. Carbonation could be calmed down somewhat, however.

O: Two years ago, I had the Vanilla Bean Smoked Porter...which I didn't like. This on the other hand, I do like. It makes want a big ol' bowl of chili to pair it up with. It's no Schlenkerla Marzen, but what is?! Nice work, Stone.

Pours a near mahogany with a dark tan 2 1/2 finger head that leaves a moderate amount of thick sticky lacing. Slightly translucent. Held up to a very bright light, it's an almost clear and brilliant red.

Smell of dark coffee, bitter chocolate, smoky ash and chipotle. Almost like cigarette smoke at times.

Bitter chocolate, burnt malt, smoky chipotle and hot spicy peppers, Yow! Not nearly as hot as my Caribbean jerk pork, but definitely the hottest beer I've ever had.

Medium bodied. There seems to be a bit of fizz from the carbonation, but it's hard to be certain with the substantial bite of the chipotles. Very warming to say the least. It made me sweat.

I've tried chile bears before, but was never impressed before now. This blows them all away. Who'd have ever thought a porter could be classified as a good summer brew? Yet, the spice makes it so.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a goblet.

Pours like a dark brown ale but tastes like a porter. The flavor from the smoked malt gives this brew a phenolic taste, and paired with the chipotle peppers turns out to be a pretty interesting brew. I drank this with cheez-its and it was amazing.
