Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

In this year’s edition we took our inspiration from two Belgian styles: Saisons and Golden Triples. As such, the Stone 07.07.07 Vertical Epic has a deep, deep golden hue and the flavor is spicy, fruity, complex and refreshing. We used four different malts, and a subtle, yet distinct, blend of Glacier and Crystal hops to get just the right balance. Then, for the complexity, we added in some exotic spices --- including ginger, cardamom, grapefruit peel, lemon peel and orange peel (the latter three acknowledging our Southern California home) --- and a special Belgian yeast strain. All in all this is yet another case of us drawing from classic Belgian influences and cavalierly making it our own...San Diego style!

Got a bomber of this at Holiday Market in Royal Oak. Solid pour, with a finger of white head and a light amber color with some golden highlights. Looks good, although the head dissipates too fast. Nose is great - strong fruit, very sweet malt, and spices. Taste is solid, although not as uniquely sweet as the nose. Breadiness, hops at the end. Strong sourness shows up later, which is a bit odd for a Belgian Strong Pale. Unique hops as well. This one was good, although not great - it's a lot more sour than most BSPAs I've tasted, although I'm not sure if that's actually a good thing.

Beer pours light amber with very little head. A good deal of cabonation is present.

The aroma is a bit floral and fruity. The alcohol is present in the aroma as well.

The taste is a crisp, malty, sweetness with a the belgian yeast sitting in the background.

The sweetness lingers nicely on the roof of the mouth.

This is a very pleasent sipper.

Bottle to VE Glass
22oz

Split with StarRaptor, Callmecoon & Smarcoly

App- This was the same color as liquid butter mixed with gold in the glass. A bit of an aggressive pour yielded a nice and bubbly head. The lace was okay. A bit of a semi dense center but like colored water with the way it looked.

Smell- A good amount of aromatics remained on this one. A bit more alive than the older bottles. More yeast came out and then a bit of a lemon malty balance. A bit of the spice is gone, but I do get some of the ginger. A nice nose but nothing aggressive.

Taste- When you take a sip on this one, it was a bit of a wheat like saison with a bit of a floral taste. Floral, light and airy. A bit of the spice is there but not much. A little bit of the malts come out and not much. A good amount of flavor still remains on this one.

Mouth- A nice medium bubbly body with a bit of a thicker medium carbonation. A bit slick and flavorful. Residual floral malts combine to leave a bit of a meadow feel.

Drink- A very nice and tasty beer. Holiding up quite well. I would like one more of these to sip on at some point. Glad I got to try all the beers. Now to wait till the drop the variants at an event to catch up!

22 oz. bottle in a snifter.

A - Beautiful copper color that's crystal clear with a nice white head that stays for a while.

S - Sweet citrusy smell with a hint as to the alcohol to come.

T - Smooth, citrus and yeast flavors. Really smooth. There's a little hint of the alcohol in the finish.

M - Medium bodied with good carbonation.

D - Great beer.

P- a declared 8.4% abv in a 22oz brown bomber bottle.

A- pours a clear medium amber to deep gold with a light tan colored bubbly head that recedes into a ring around the edge.

S- citrus of lemons and oranges and ginger aroma.

T- starts with a mild sweetness followed with bitter ginger spice and finishes with a moderate amount of bitterness from the hops, alcohol is hidden well in this powerful (and to the style) flavor.

M- medium body that is moderately carbonated.

D- well balanced with a solid amount of alcohol that goes down easy but sits a little heavy. A great tasting beer, but most won't drink more than one at a time. I could see myself sitting down on a dark and cold winter night celebrating with this one.

Picked it up because it looked interesting

A. translucent light gold. Light carbonation, very little head mostly on edge of my snifter, and lasted 1 minute.

S. Ginger, Citrus, maybe some cinnamon, not very distinctive.

T. If you like fruit + ginger you've found a beer. Sweet and tart, with little aftertaste.

M. Light... Tiny Bubbles

D. Not really my gig, but I think the wife will like it. Hides the 8.4% well. It's worth trying if you have access to it, but I wouldn't go out of my way unless you LOVE ginger and/or citrus beers.

It's not bad, but it's also not Epic.

Pours a hazy dark amber/orange color with an inch and a half of slightly yellowed head. Decent retention but no lacing.

The aroma is great. Some nice big notes of citrus, a little bit of spice, and kind of yeasty. Really delicious.

The taste is ok. Definitely some citrus going on with a decent amount of spicing. The yeast comes into play nicely, and finishes kind of malty. As it warms I get some more herbal and minty qualities. Really diggin it even more.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and highly carbonated.

Drinkability is moderate. The flavor is ok, but fairly aggressive. With the alcohol being moderately high in addition to that, it starts to limit this brew a bit.

Pours a clear light amber color with a small head that falls quickly but leaves plenty of lacing on the glass. The aroma is spicy and has some alcohol notes and I smell something that reminds me of ginger. Also has lots of pepper notes. The flavor has plenty of Belgian character with a strong alcohol presence. It's fairly dry, but there is a spice flavor in there that lends to the sweetness. Pepper and spices are strong in the flavor as well as a bit of funkiness. The body is on the light end of moderate and the drinkability is ok. I'm sure it will improve with age.

Opened June 2013.

A - Nice golden apricot body. Fine white head sits low with nice retention and lace.

S - Bright, floral nose. Great balance. Dandelion, honey, touch of tangerine, white grape, Chardonnay, macadamia nut.

T - Smooth apricot jam, honey, sour pear, white grape. Floral finish.

M - Silky, medium-light frame. Surprisingly creamy.

O - A floral take on the style with strong mead influences. Great integration and balance.

Part of a '06 - '10 vertical

Pours a golden bronze with a 1/2 finger head. The nose is very sweet with sweet grains and a bit of mint / herbal tone. It's taste was similar, sweet grain malt was dominant with a nice herbal sweetness too it as well. Fruity yeast added to the mix as well. The smooth bodied ale had low amounts of carbonation. This was really good and very interesting. One of the more unique beers I have had, especially for the style.
