Pours opaque very dark brown with 1/2 inch of eggshell head that settles to a moderate cap on top and leaves heavy spots of lace.

Smell is of burnt wood and faint vanilla up front with a hint of hoppy bitterness on the finish.

Taste starts with charred dark malt and bitter hops followed by hints of dark chocolate and vanilla.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with high carbonation.

I'm not picking up very much vanilla in this one. I'd like for the vanilla flavor to jump out and separate this version from the original smoked porter. Still, a solid enough effort.

22oz bottle split with my girlfriend.Poured into my Night Shift tulip.

Pours an imposing motor-oil black, with minimal brown and ruby highlights appearing when held up to light. Tan one-finger head recedes fairly quickly, leaving a thin sudsy collar. Minimal spotty lacing.

Aroma is first and foremost of potent vanilla bean, with lesser notes of charred wood and dark chocolate. Smells like late nights toasting marshmallows around the campfire at Cape Cod.

And whaddaya know, tastes like s'mores and campfires too. Big initial hit of vanilla and marshmallow on the front of the palate quickly gives way to a prolonged smokey wood flavor, with some dark and milk chocolate notes appearing mid- and back-palate to balance the campfire aspect. Finishes with a pleasant intermingling of burnt toast, smokey wood, and mild earthy hop bitterness. A resurgence of vanilla bean on the back keeps the other three in check and prevents this beer from finishing too bitter.

Mouthfeel is on the lighter end of medium-bodied, honestly a bit thin. A bit too carbonated as well, perhaps, but mostly quite smooth and drinkable.

On the whole, very nice without quite making the leap into excellence. Definitely a nice winter beer, and I appreciate having a cold-weather option that isn't a 10% stout, but I kept finding myself wishing for just a bit more oomph, especially body-wise. A pleasant drinking experience nevertheless.

Poured into a pint glass.

A - It pours a nice dark, dark, burgundy/amber type of brown with a one inch frothy off white head.

S - Poured it and got a BIG roasty coffee bean smell. you can smell a bit of the smokiness as well. Getting notes of chocolate as well. Honestly not getting any vanilla.

T/M - Vanilla makes a sliiight appearance, and it kind of tastes like a smore. Pretty much tastes just like the regular smoked porter..a graham cracker flavor comes and goes quickly as well...really interesting..maybe a little bit more mellow due to the vanilla laced in there. tastes great, somewhat creamy and very smooth and drinkable just wish they emphasized the vanilla bean flavor in there more.taste kind of resembles one of those candy chocolate covered coffee beans!! Instead of struggling to taste it I want it to hit me right away and end with the smokiness. Due to the whole smokiness factor this makes for a great winter beer! All in all though this is a solid beer. Coffee lovers will especially dig this;cheers.

A : pours a dark brown with bits of amber hues. Thin off white head.
S: roasty BBQ chicken skin. Dark toasted bread. Mild smokey smell. Pretty nice. Hints of vanilla at the end. Almost a leather aroma towards the end. Vanilla increases a lot as it warms

T : taste exactly like it smells. Smooth roasted malt flavor combined with bread and smoked wood. The smoke is mild, but reminiscent of campfire smoke getting in your mouth, but again it's mild and pleasant. Vanilla bean in the back end is tasty, and smooths away the roasted and smoked flavor. A bit of bitter hop flavor in the second half that balances everything out.
M : medium-full bodied. Bitter and nearing harsh but then it balances out and is smooth at the end from the vanilla. Good drinkability.

Flavorful, drinkable. Really good

This should be called the smores beer. It had campfire aroma, with a marshmallow, milk chocolate taste. The smores taste goes away fast. The campfire smokey notes last.

Very solid beer from Stone. Not as dramatic as some of there other brews, but it was nice to sit down to on a cold note. Very warm like a campfire.

Poured into a tulip.

A - A rich dark brown bordering on black. Nice big fluffy 3 finger head, with a pale mocha hue.

S - Campfire, baker's chocolate, freshly baked brownies.

T - Initial marshmallow/vanilla sweetness fades into a chocolate and light smoke/cola finish.

M - A bit thin for the style IMO. Perhaps too large bubbles. I'd like to see what nitro might do for this beer.

O - A very nice porter from Stone, not overly smokey or sweet, the vanilla plays nicely off the base beer. Slight knocks for the slightly too thin mouthfeel and perhaps just a hint of odd cola like sweetness on the aftertaste. Still would definitely get this again if given the opportunity, although I wouldn't rush to the store for it.
